Job Description Summary
The Penn Acute Research Collaboration (PARC) is an interdepartmental venture at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center (PPMC) designed to capture, investigate and ultimately improve the outcomes of patients in acute care settings. Established in 2015, it serves as a focal point for multidisciplinary clinical and translational research. PARC provides a trained, dedicated workforce of acute clinical research staff 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and delivers a variety of clinical, laboratory, administrative and regulatory services. The initiative also offers around the clock access to touch-down research space and a biochemical and molecular biological translational laboratory.
PARC is hiring a full-time laboratory technician. Their primary responsibilities will be to perform molecular and biochemistry experiments, assist with clinical sample collection and processing, maintain laboratory databases and records, and collaborate with other research team members and investigators.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform techniques for sample processing (pipetting, vortexing, aliquot, and centrifugation) of human samples for storage and/or more complex experiments; specimens can include anatomic samples (e.g., blood, urine, respiratory)
  • Perform molecular techniques including DNA/RNA isolation from cells, western blot, gel electrophoresis, DNA amplification by the polymerase chain reaction, DNA sequencing, Real-Time PCR
  • Tissue culture: maintenance of cell lines, sub-culturing, freezing and storage, maintenance of cell stocks
  • General laboratory duties, including reagent preparation, ordering supplies, basic lab cleaning and maintenance, maintenance of chemical inventory, maintenance of freezer storage databases
  • Organize and log results in lab notebook and excel spreadsheets


  • High School Diploma and 1 to 2 years of experience in biology, biochemistry or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience required, plus 0-1 year experience working in biology research or cell and molecular preferred; Bachelor's degree and 0 -1 preferred
    biology, or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required
  • Ability to communicate clearly, maintain records of experiments, analyze experimental data & maintain records of use of reagents
  • Proficiency in conventional molecular biology and microbiological techniques (sequencing, basic bacterial culture, maintaining cell lines)
  • May require flexibility to work evenings/nights/weekends
