About the Opportunity

F. W. Olin Library in Mills College at Northeastern University seeks a reliable person to join our access services team as a Library Evening/Weekend Monitor ($17.84/hour). Reporting to the Head of Reference and Access Services, the Library Evening/Weekend Monitor acts as the frontline manager and “staff person in charge” during our weekend and late-night hours.

Specific Responsibilities

The Library Monitor is responsible for opening and locking the building in a timely manner; enforcing library policies; monitoring and hourly walk-throughs of the building to ensure safety and security; summoning appropriate medical or building assistance in response to emergencies; and may provide directional and basic reference assistance; assist with computers, printers, and other equipment; other duties as assigned by supervisor. The Library Monitor is generally one of two staff members working during late nights and weekends, aside from student workers, and must be comfortable working and assisting patrons independently.

Qualifications
  • Dependability and excellent attendance are essential.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal communication, and customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of library procedures helpful.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and productive working relationships within a diverse and multicultural environment.

Schedule

We are hiring two monitors. Please indicate in your application which schedule you prefer or are able to work.

Schedule 1:

Tuesdays: 6:45p-12a

Saturdays: 11:45a-6:15p

Schedule 2:

Saturdays: 11:45a-6:15p

Sundays: 5:15p-1

The hourly rate for this position is $17.84/hour.
