The TCNJ Art Gallery is seeking candidates for Gallery Assistant role.
The duties and responsibilities of the Art Gallery Assistant include the following:
I. Manage Three Student Exhibition Spaces
a. Work with Art Department students and faculty to develop and review student and class-related exhibition proposals, including proposals for virtual exhibitions.
b. Supervise student exhibitors in the student and main gallery, including installation and deinstallation scheduling, exhibition design, safe installation practices, special installation needs, and exhibition promotion.
c. Assist students with the preparation and production of online exhibitions (as needed), including preparing images, writing and editing text, planning and designing the exhibition website.
II. Assist with Main Gallery Exhibition Installation
a. Assist with the setup of gallery walls and preparation of gallery spaces including spackling, sanding, painting, and general cleaning.
b. Assist with the unpacking and packing of artworks
c. Assist with the installation of artworks and gallery lighting
d. Assist with transportation of artworks to and from the Art Gallery
e. Manage and organize tools and supplies in gallery workroom
Required Qualifications:
- 1 year experience installing and handling artwork
- Safely handle and install 2D and 3D artwork and media work.
- Ability to use basic tools required for installation and deinstallation.
- Flexible work schedule, including some evenings and weekends
- BA/BFA in Fine Art preferred
- Knowledge of professional art handling practices and ability to handle and install fragile and multimedia artworks
- Excellent communication skills; ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities; attention to detail
- Knowledge of the TCNJ BFA senior solo exhibitions and capstone exhibition process desired.
