Job Description

This Graduate Assistant provides support to the Graduate Program Director for the department and assists graduate instructors with any / all tasks related to graduate program. Reports directly to Department of Criminal Justice and Legal Studies Graduate Director. The GA is expected to maintain strict confidentiality in regard to all student and department records; Will participate in regular meetings with Criminal Justice and Legal Studies Graduate Committee; Will assist graduate instructors with any / all tasks related to graduate program and assist Department of Criminal Justice and Legal Studies Chairperson with department-related work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
  • Maintaining databases of both current and former students
  • Maintaining graduation records
  • Distributing program information to inquirers
  • Assisting with all recruitment activities – may require some travel, as well as evening/weekend attendance at conferences
  • Updating programs of study and progress records for all current students
  • Maintaining advisee lists for primary graduate advisors
  • Updating information on graduate programs website
  • Gathering information as requested via website/library searches, and direct phone contacts
  • Distributing surveys to current and former students, according to pre-established schedule
  • Aggregating and summarizing survey data
  • Recording minutes of weekly graduate meetings
  • Assisting graduate faculty with exhibit booth at professional conferences
  • Completing miscellaneous office tasks (e.g., photocopying, writing letters, responding to emails), as requested




Required Qualifications

• Degree seeking graduate student at Missouri Western State University
• Maintain a minimum of 3.0 GPA – not on academic probation.
• Enrolled in at least five (5) credit hours per semester

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
  • Strong computer skills; MS Word and Excel
  • Exceptional attention to detail (e.g., data entry, tracking dates of all emails and phone calls)
  • Good communication skills for interacting with current and potential graduate student, faculty and staff
  • Dependability and reliability


Preferred Qualifications

Graduate student who will not graduate prior to May 2022
