Rhode Island College invites applicants for the two positions of Assistant, Professor TESOL (Tenure-Track). These are full-time, academic year, continuing tenure track positions.
The Department of Educational Studies at Rhode Island College invites creative and engaged teacher-scholars to join this dynamic team. The successful candidates will bring expertise in TESOL content and innovative pedagogy, and possess a keen ability to engage in interdisciplinary work. Founded in 1854, Rhode Island College is a distinctive regional college personalizing education for undergraduate and graduate students. The college serves the undergraduate and graduate students through its five schools: The Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Feinstein School of Education and Human Development, the School of Business, the School of Nursing and the School of Social Work.
The 180-acre campus is located in beautiful, historic Providence, Rhode Island’s capital, with excellent proximity to the academic and cultural resources of Boston and New York City.
Required qualifications:
- An earned doctorate in TESOL, bilingual education, or related field. ABD candidates will be considered
- At least three years’ experience in Pk-12 TESOL or Bilingual Education settings in the US.
- Comprehensive knowledge of best practices in TESOL in bilingual education including PK-12 and/or Adult ESOL settings
- Strong understanding of and connection to transnational, bilingual, and/or historically marginalized communities in the US.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish productive working relationships with colleagues and partner schools
Preferred qualifications:
- Proficiency in a language other than English, with preference for languages spoken by bilingual communities in RI.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the postsecondary level, with a focus on preparing teachers of emergent bilinguals for PK-12 settings
- Experience advocating for emergent bilinguals at the community, district, or statewide level.
