Minimum Qualifications
Required qualifications include a master’s degree in physical education (or arelated field) and deep knowledge of physical education teaching principles.
Additional qualifications include:
1. The ability to teach a wide variety of collegiate physical education activity courses.
2. The ability to supervise physical education student teachers.
3. A demonstrated commitment to collegiality and student success.
4. Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Description of the Department or Unit
The RMPE department is comprised of Recreation Management, Health, Physical Education, & Coaching, and Physical Education Activity programs. The Physical Education Activity ( PEA ) program offers a wide variety of activity courses to meet students’ interests as part of Appalachian’s General Education program. Appalachian State University’s Beaver College of Health Sciences ( BCHS ) is transforming the health and quality of life for the communities it serves through inclusive practices, interprofessional collaboration and innovation in teaching, scholarship, service, and clinical outreach. BCHS supports almost 3,400 students in nine undergraduate degree programs and seven graduate degree programs, organized into six departments: Nursing; Nutrition and Health Care Management; Public Health and Exercise Science; Recreation Management and Physical Education; Rehabilitation Sciences; and Social Work. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include teaching physical education activity courses, supervision of on-campus, field-based, student teaching experiences, and participation in university and professional service.
Candidates should have the ability to teach a wide variety of collegiate physical education activity courses. Secondary duties include the opportunity to teach physical education teacher education major courses.
