The Department of Biology invites applications for an 18 month, full-time Visiting Assistant Professor position in biology, beginning in January 2024. The candidate should have a Ph.D. in biology or in a closely related field and the potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching and in research. The candidate is expected to teach lectures and labs in Introduction to Environmental Studies and introductory biology classes and will have the opportunity to teach upper-level classes for the biology major or for the general education curriculum. Research activities in collaboration with undergraduate students are strongly encouraged, with laboratory space provided in addition to the opportunity to apply for College-funded research grants. We seek a candidate who demonstrates a strong commitment to student-centered undergraduate education.
The Department of Biological Sciences includes 16 full-time faculty working and teaching in fields spanning the levels of organization in biological systems. Our teaching and research labs are well-equipped and housed in the new Integrated Science and Engineering Center. In addition, the Department contributes to numerous interdisciplinary programs including Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Environmental Science and Policy, Environmental Engineering, and Nanoscience (https://www.union.edu/interdisciplinary-studies).
