Overview of Grants Manager

Purdue University Northwest is seeking a Grants Manager to join our Sponsored Programs Department. The Grants Manager will work directly with faculty and staff in sponsored program proposal preparation that includes interpretation and compliance with sponsor and university guidelines, budget development and review, preparation of non-technical proposal documents, collaboration with other departments and institutions, review of completed proposal in preparation for submission, and submission of proposals in accordance with delegations. Manage projects and make improvements to enhance performance of pre-award process.

Duties and Responsibilities of Grants Manager
  • Partner with Principal Investigators in proposal preparation and advise all involved parties on the process.
  • Review Request for Proposals (RFP) and Request for Quote (RFQ) to ensure proper proposal preparation and determine if additional involvement is needed (e.g., Contracting, Export Control, and Regulatory).
  • Analyze and interpret sponsor guidelines and make recommendations to Principal Investigators for compliance.
  • Work with Principal Investigator to develop timeline and determine responsible personnel for proposal development activities.
  • Create and review proposed budgets and draft budget justifications.
  • Collaborate with other departments, institutions, and universities to resolve subcontracting issues relative to proposal submission
  • Assist Principal Investigators with the electronic research administration system functionality and electronic proposal submissions.
  • Provide assistance and training to other Pre-Award Specialists as needed.
  • Review and analyze completed proposal in preparation for submission.
  • Assure that the proposal meets all sponsor and university guidelines.
  • Audit budget, budget justification, subcontract, and cost sharing documentation.
  • Interpret sponsor policies and regulations and make moderate to significant improvements to enhance performance of impact on pre-award process including changes in the eRA system sponsor forms and validation rules.
  • Communicate and collaborate with contracting and post award team to facilitate smooth transition from proposal to award.
  • Provide ad hoc training for pre-award process as needed for faculty and staff. Coordinate limited submissions as needed.
  • Conduct training sessions as needed

Education of Grants Manager
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Fields related to Business, Education, or Communications, or Research Administration preferred
Experience of Grants Manager
  • Two years of experience in proposal preparation and research administration in higher education or hospital setting.
