Overview of Grants Manager

Purdue University Northwest is seeking a Grants Manager to join our Sponsored Programs Department. The primary purpose of this position is to independently service a portfolio of externally funded grants and ensure the university upholds the highest standards of fiscal compliance. The grant portfolio value can range between $5 million and $20 million annually.

Duties and Responsibilities of Grants Manager
  • Independently manage Purdue University Northwest grants portfolio from set up to post-closing (audit). Ensure that the post award aspects of the implementation plan for the PNW Office of Research strategic plan is on track.
  • Ensure PNW grants are managed in compliance with Purdue University policies and processes, Federal Uniform Administrative Requirements (2.CFR 200), and sponsor requirements and expectations.
  • Develop post award processes that align with federal, sponsor or university requirements
  • Stay up to date with relevant grant-related developments and policies
  • Work with West Lafayette to establish new accounts
  • Approve all expenses on grants
  • Manage and process effort reporting (Personnel Activity Reports) and other documents, such as Notices to Proceed and No Cost Extensions.
  • Monitor and clear overdrafts, provide grant projections and reports monthly
  • Ensure appropriate rates are used and that regulatory requirements are met throughout the project
  • Manage internal and external audits as needed and maintain backup
  • Develop training and website content
  • Hold post award education sessions – i.e Days of Discovery / Research Symposium coordination (spring). etc

Education of Grants Manager
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Preferred degree in Business, Higher Education, Research Administration, Accounting, or a related field
Experience of Grants Manager
  • Two years of experience in Research Administration or Sponsored Programs

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-moving customer-focused environment

  • Must have strong computer skills
  • Certified Research Administrator preferred (not required)
