Writer/Content Strategist



BASIC FUNCTION:

The Writer/Content Strategist creates content for distribution through internal and external communication methods including, but not limited to, websites, email newsletters, collateral materials, media and the University's magazine, Report from Newport.

The Writer/Content Strategist contributes to and assists in the implementation of internal and external communication plans, policies and procedures; facilitates and encourages the use of branding and style guides; and participates in the governance of the salve.edu website and other communications initiatives to enhance the image of Salve Regina locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ensure all content published to constituents and the higher education industry is accurate, in keeping with brand positioning, and coordinated with appropriate institutional research, student affairs and legal departments on campus.
  • Provide concept development, writing, editing, and editorial project management skills necessary to create content that promotes the university's reputation, faculty accomplishments, student experience and institutional messaging to a variety of audiences.
  • Ensure consistency between digital and print materials in terms of messaging and strategic content serving the audiences of Salve Regina University both internally and externally.
  • Produce original content, and assist with editing submitted content and managing assignments to interns and student employees.
  • Edit copy submitted by academic and administrative departments, and write or proofread material as necessary to maintain effective and timely content that is consistent with the University's brand and messaging platforms.
  • Work in collaboration with the University's Social Media Manager by contributing repurposed content for posting.

LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:

Computer proficiency on both Macintosh and PC platforms required.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

The incumbent is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.


Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, business, English or a related field
  • One or more years of applicable experience
  • Strong writing, interviewing, editing and proofreading skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple projects independently.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and willingness to respond to communication needs on a timely or emergency basis.
  • Demonstrated writing ability, with samples provided
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Knowledge of AP style
  • Working knowledge of marketing and communications principles.
