Loyola University Chicago seeks a Dean of the School of Communication (SOC) with energy, ambition, creativity, and the ability to lead the school to greater distinction. The Dean will join Loyola at an exciting time under the leadership of recently inaugurated president Mark C. Reed, EdD, MBA, who is working across the university to actualize a strategic plan based around the alignment of research, scholarship and mission, the promotion of racial justice, and the institution's ability to address complex societal challenges. As the study of communication is one of the primary means for promoting the traditional goals of liberal education – understanding political rhetoric and social justice, participating in media advocacy, and developing an ethical sensitivity necessary to the times – the incoming Dean will have a profound influence on the future of the university by working with the SOC faculty, staff, and students who are mutually and deeply committed to creating an impact on Chicago, the nation, and the world.

Located in one of the world's top communication centers and the third largest media market in the country, Loyola University Chicago utilizes the great and diverse city of Chicago as its learning laboratory. The School of Communication provides an ideal setting for integrating study with practical application in the expanding fields of advertising, public advocacy, cultural communication, digital media studies, film production, multimedia journalism, public relations, and other areas of communication. The School is a community of learners that fosters critical thinking and innovation, integrates big ideas in communication theory and practice, tells stories across multiple platforms, and adapts to changing technology and social needs. With an emphasis on equity and social justice, the School of Communication serves over 600 students in an environment of learning and belonging for all. Through its range of degree and programmatic offerings, including undergraduate and master's programs, the School of Communication seeks to develop ethical professionals with the knowledge and dedication to make a lasting contribution through communication and service in the world.
Inspired by the Jesuit traditions of academic excellence, intellectual openness, social justice, and service to others, the Dean will work to deepen the School's commitment to integrity and work collaboratively with School leaders to develop a vision for the School that builds upon and elevates the work of its exceptional faculty, staff, and students. Through careful listening to gain a deep appreciation for the school, the Dean will become an advocate for the School of Communication, working to build relationships and garner resources that further enable high-quality and accessible programs, research, and community and industry engagement.

The Dean will help uplift and define the next era of the School of Communication and will address a number of key strategic and operational priorities. To be successful in this role, the Dean will:

● Create a vision and plan for the School's continued growth that is rooted in the University's core values of social justice, equity, and inclusion and distinctly positions Loyola Chicago as a champion of innovation and integrity in communication;
● Leverage the city of Chicago and elevate the School's visibility through industry partnerships and community engagement initiatives;
● Energize a creative and committed faculty and staff by furthering opportunities for research and collaboration;
● Ensure the financial health and future of the School of Communication through fundraising, resource management, and alumni engagement;
● Advocate for the School of Communication across University divisions and schools
