Job Summary

The College of Lake County is currently looking for an Athletic Trainer to join the Athletics & Physical Activity Department. The Athletic Trainer reports to the Director of Athletics and is responsible for overseeing all phases of the athletic training program within the Department of Athletics & Physical Activity. This includes the prevention, care and treatment of athletic injuries; administrative functions, supervision of student worker athletic trainer aides, develop and implement injury prevention programs, and provide immediate treatment and rehabilitation procedures for student-athletes. The Athletic Trainer is subject to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions and requires physical attributes consistent with performing the duties of the Athletic Trainer. This position will be required to work during prime practice hours of most sports and evening and weekend work is required.

Required Qualification(s)
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training or equivalent.
  2. A minimum of one (1) year of related experience.
  3. Certification by the National Athletic Trainer’s Association ( NATA )
  4. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation ( CPR ) certified or ability to attain one (provided by the College) before start date.
  5. Licensed Athletic Trainer by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.

Summary of Essential Functions

Athletic trainers must have knowledge of a large range of medical problems. Assessment, evaluation skills and working with other healthcare professionals will be required.

Student-Customer Service 65%
  • Decision-Making Skills: Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines.
  • Attention to Detail: Athletic trainers should be thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situation when talking to patients, medical professionals, and staff.
  • Coordinates care, prevention and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and illnesses to both male and female athletes at the College in accordance with the Illinois Athletic Trainer’s Practice Act.
  • Provides coverage for home scheduled practices and events for all sports during the school year.
  • Performs emergency injury care as needed to any athlete (including visiting teams).
  • Provide accommodation recommendations, related to sport, for student athletes with restrictions or limitations.
Project and Process Management 15%
  • Provides each athletic team with a well-stocked medical kit and keeping that kit supplied at all times.
  • Provides oversight and routine maintenance of the training room facilities.
  • Responsible for the selection, ordering and maintenance of all athletic training supplies and equipment used each school year.
Technology Support 10%
  • Keeps accurate records of all injuries, method of treatment, rehabilitation and medical releases.
  • Responsible for maintaining injury and treatment records, medical releases, waivers and detailed injury reports for insurance claims.
Personnel Management 5%
  • Assists with directing the day-to-day activities of the student-worker Athletic Training Aides.
  • Manage the CPR requirements/certifications for all staff members of the athletics department.
Other 5%
  • Performs related duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
