Assistant Professor

Tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Learning Technologies, Design & School Library Media (LTDM) with expertise in current and emerging trends and technologies related to digital and electronic resources and school library media, instructional design, children and young adult school library services, and digital media and technology in youth work or related areas. The LTDM department has an established and successful school library media program that integrates new approaches to the educational and research needs of professionals seeking to understand emerging models for instructional delivery and youth participation in the new media ecology found in K-12 educational settings. The College of Education seeks applications from a diverse pool of early career scholars with a strong focus on information literacy and learning/instructional design/ educational technologies, a commitment to engaging in service with underrepresented populations within the discipline and applying information literacy and digital technologies to achieve more just and equitable educational learning opportunities and teaching practices. Candidates should have outstanding potential and a defined research agenda related to the discipline of school library media, including but not limited to the knowledge of current issues, integrating digital resources, information literacy, collection development, and school library media leadership and administration. They should have demonstrated teaching ability, strong methodological skills, and a desire to develop sponsored research. Successful candidates will have earned doctorate (degree completed by December 2024) from an accredited university in Library Science, Information Science, School Library Media, Instructional Technology, Curriculum and Instruction, Information Studies, or related fields; demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring underrepresented students; active scholarly productivity with strong methodological training, learning design experience, and professional development commitment; experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses; experience teaching in online or hybrid learning environments; a strong interest in advising and mentoring masters and/or doctoral student research; experience teaching in public/private schools and knowledge of state and national standards for school libraries (i.e., AASL); designing and developing learning materials/courses using emerging and advanced digital media and technology and a desire to seek externally funded grants. Assistant Professor in Educational Research

Tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Educational Research beginning in the Fall of 2024. The College of Education, Department of Learning Technologies, Design & School Library Media (LTDM) seeks applications from a diverse pool of early career scholars with a strong focus on research methodologies who can teach both required and advanced research and evaluation methods courses at the graduate level. The LTDM department supports a multidisciplinary group of faculty members and offers graduate education through M.S. and Ph.D. in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, and School Library Media. The ideal candidate will be expected to teach research methodologies courses, engage with the latest developments and innovations in research methodologies, pursue an active research agenda, advise graduate students, direct doctoral dissertations, assist in research projects associated with the department initiatives, and contribute to the department’s positive and inclusive climate. Successful candidates will have earned doctorate (degree completed by December 2024) from an accredited university in Educational Research, Quantitative Methods, Educational Psychology, Measurement, or a related field; demonstrated commitment and ability to teach various quantitative and/or qualitative research methodology courses (in person, online, and hyflex) and proven knowledge of emerging research techniques; proficiency in one or more statistical software packages such as SPSS, R, Stata, and/or qualitative data analysis tools such as NVivo, Atlas.ti; knowledge of and engagement with the latest developments and innovations in research methodologies; evidence of ability to teach and work with persons from ethically and culturally diverse backgrounds and mentoring underrepresented students; evidence of rigorous active scholarly productivity and involvement with relevant scholarly communities; a strong interest in advising and mentoring masters and/or doctoral student research; evidence of dedication to graduate and undergraduate teaching and mentorship, a commitment to service at the department, college, and university levels, a willingness to contribute to the continued development of a methodologically diverse and collaborative department; and a desire to seek externally funded grants. Assistant Professor in Physical Education Teacher Education

Department of Kinesiology

Tenure-track, 9-month Assistant Professor position in the Physical Education/Teacher Education Program in the Department of Kinesiology beginning August 2024. Doctoral degree in Physical Education Teacher Education, Health Education Teacher Education, or Health and Physical Education. ABD applicants considered, but appointment will be at the Instructor rank and all degree requirements must be completed by February 1, 2025. Evidence of scholarship agenda focused in an area related to Health Education Teacher Education, Physical Education Teacher Education or Health and Physical Education is required. Training and expertise to teach courses in Physical Education and/or Health Education and Kinesiology- related courses in health, wellness and fitness are required. At least one year experience teaching PreK-12 Physical Education, Health Education and/or Health and Physical Education is required. Candidates with three or more years of K-12 teaching experience are highly valued and encouraged to apply. Assistant Professor in Kinesiology (2 positions)

Two tenure-track, 9-month Assistant Professors in the Department of Kinesiology beginning August 2024. One position will be hired based on research and teaching expertise in sport governance and sport-related management including sport facilities and events; the other position will be hired based on expertise in sport and human performance, including coaching, leadership, and recreation coordination and programming. Candidates with expertise in both areas and may expand beyond single disciplinary boundaries are highly valued and encouraged to apply. Tenure-track, 9-month position for an Assistant Professor of the history of the African Diaspora in the Department of History beginning August 2024. All time periods and geographic areas of specialization are welcome. PhD in History or related fields required. ABD applicants considered, but appointment will be at the ‘Instructor’ rank and all degree requirements must be completed by February 1, 2025. Research specialization in the history of the African Diaspora. Demonstrated excellence in teaching in applicant’s field of specialization. Demonstrated scholarship and active research agenda. Proven ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse student body and to support the University’s Diversity Strategic Plan. The successful candidate will be expected to teach and develop upper- and lower-level courses in the History of the African Diaspora as well as in their other areas of specialization. The successful cand date will also contribute to related programs, including the African & African American Studies minor. Towson University and the Department of History are transitioning to the research-intensive R2 status and candidates will be expected to contribute to this move and to pursue grant-based scholarship as outlined in the University’s mission and strategic plan. The normal teaching load is 3-3, with a reduced 2-3 load for the first year and additional opportunities for reduced teaching load in future years. Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, Forensic Science

Department of Chemistry

Tenure-track, 9-month Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Forensic Science in the Department of Chemistry beginning August 2024. Appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor requires a Ph.D. in Forensic Science, Chemistry, Biology or a related discipline, with application toward Forensic Science required. Postdoctoral experience is preferred. ABD candidates will be considered but appointment will be at the Instructor rank, and all degree requirements must be completed by February 1, 2025. Appointment at the rank of Associate Professor requires a minimum of 5 years of teaching and research in a tenure-track position or comparable professional experience. The department is particularly interested in candidates with expertise in either analytical chemistry (forensic toxicology, forensic drug analysis and forensic trace evidence analysis using advanced analytical techniques and instruments such as HPLC, LCMS, GC, GCMS and FTIR), or forensic DNA analysis (STR/PCR and/or NGS technology). Candidates with experience in a forensic analytical chemistry laboratory or a forensic DNA laboratory, and/or undergraduate teaching experience are strongly encouraged to apply. Teach upper-level undergraduate and graduate forensic science courses and serve as an undergraduate and graduate research mentor. Establish a competitive research program that can engage undergraduate and graduate forensic science students. Pursue external funding and publish in peer- reviewed research journals. Participate in departmental activities and potentially teach general chemistry courses at the introductory level when needed by the department.
