Position Overview

Position Summary

The primary purpose of this position is skilled work in the maintenance and repair of television production and broadcasting devices, subsystems, and smaller systems. The employee will install, calibrate, maintain, and modify a variety of both standard and more technically sophisticated electronic devices usually interconnected into a small television production or broadcasting system. While many of the devices are standard as defined in the Television Engineer I level, some are more advanced and sophisticated in that they include a greater variety of state-of-the-art circuitry performing a greater variety of standard and non-standard functions. In troubleshooting, the difficulties of diagnosis and calibration are increased due to the variety and number of interconnected circuits, components, and devices. Where systems work is required, some standard circuit modification for interfacing devices into systems may be involved. Complete schematic diagrams are available on all standard equipment. Because state-of-the-art devices are often modified or updated, schematics may be fragmented or incomplete, increasing both problem diagnosis and calibration difficulties. Work of this nature is performed independently. Problem diagnosis and repair on larger electronics systems or the most sophisticated electronics devices is performed under closer supervision.

Primary Focal Areas:
The position provides support in three technical areas of the Digital Media track in the Department of Communication & Media Studies – production, engineering, and networking.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The Department of Communication and Media Studies at Winston-Salem State University focuses on the emerging digital forms of media in the 21st Century, with emphasis on human and social communication. Students will have the opportunity to increase and enhance global-intercultural awareness.
