Position Summary:
Job Summary
The Director of the Susquehanna University Annual Fund (SUF) is responsible for coordinating all of the University's efforts to secure gifts for current operations from alumni, parents, businesses, and friends. The SUF is the fund-raising program that focuses on generating regular operating support for the University. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Advancement and supervising a staff of three direct reports, the Director of the SUF is responsible for developing and implementing short- and long-range strategies and goals for all Susquehanna University Fund (SUF) fundraising campaigns and programs, while using performance benchmarks and best practices to design, execute and evaluate comprehensive annual/regular giving programs. This position is defined as an exempt position under FLSA regulations.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. Knowledge of English language including meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar.
- Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
- Skilled at written and verbal communication in order to convey information effectively and as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
- Skilled at active listening in order to give full attention to what other people are saying; Ability to manage one's own time and the time of others.

Physical Demand
Position requires the ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time. Position requires the ability to move about the campus. Must be able to travel long distances if needed, by airplane and by automobile. Occasional local travel, limited regional and national travel. Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed for special events or campaigns. Position requires the ability to talk and to hear instruction. Position requires occasional manual dexterity and the ability to use fingers, hands, and arms to feel, handle, and reach. Position requires occasional stooping, crouching and bending. Position requires the ability to occasionally lift up to 10 pounds. Working conditions are indoor.
Specific Responsibilities
- Oversee planning, organization and implementation of all annual fund programs, including alumni reunion giving programs.
- Manage and implement the leadership giving program for the SUF. Includes personally soliciting and/or coordinating the personal solicitation of lead annual fund donors and prospects, including trustees, in collaboration with constituent volunteers as well as staff major gift officers.
- Working with Advancement Services, gather and analyze data to increase the pool of prospective SUF donors with the aim of increasing giving, increasing participation from alumni, improving research, and continually building the pool.
- Oversee the university's mass appeal programs that are managed directly by other members of the staff. These include: crowdfunding campaign, digital and social media appeals, and direct mail appeals.
- Develop/train/manage volunteer fund raising programs with campus and alumni constituent groups.
- Conduct volunteer-led faculty/staff solicitation program.
- Oversee the process of securing corporate matching gifts from eligible SU donors.
- In collaboration with the Director of Donor Relations, oversee the donor stewardship and recognition plans for annual fund donors.
- Assist Advancement Services in educating campus partners on required University and IRS fundraising policies.
Required Qualifications:
Education
Bachelor’s degree required.
Experience
5 years of demonstrated fund-raising experience required with at least two years of proven success accelerating growth in annual fund development programs. Experience with alumni participation, leadership programs and mass appeals is preferred. Proven track record of collaborative leadership and evidence of success in building and managing teams preferred.
This position requires a valid driver’s license, and the ability to drive and qualify under the university’s insurance carrier when driving a university and/or leased vehicle.
