Open Date: Aug 28, 2023
Deadline:

Description
Located in the vibrant community of Walla Walla, WA, Whitman College is home to an intellectually diverse, dynamic, and supportive community of some 500 staff and faculty serving roughly 1,500 students from the local region and across the globe. With exceptional students, accomplished faculty and staff, and engaged alumni, Whitman College continues to build on its national reputation for academic excellence as one of the top undergraduate, liberal arts colleges in the country.

The Department of Computer Science seeks applicants for a tenure-track position beginning August 2024, area open, at the rank of assistant professor or associate professor. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in computer science or a related field by the start of the position. In addition to traditional areas of computer science, we welcome candidates working in interdisciplinary, emerging, and socially-engaged areas of computing research. We seek candidates who will strive for excellence in teaching as well as scholarship, including those who currently hold industry positions.

Computer Science is among Whitman's newest academic programs, graduating our first two majors in 2018 and about twenty majors in 2023, with further growth anticipated. Class sizes range from under ten to about thirty students. Beyond the major, the Department graduates 5-10 minors each year, while introductory and intermediate level courses engage students from all majors and class years. The Department contributes to a minor in data science, a new interdisciplinary concentration in human-centered design, and a developing institutional strength in scientific computing.
