Reporting to the Dean, Melissa J. Perry, ScD, MHS, the Chair serves as a key member of the Dean’s leadership team, overseeing one of five academic units in the College.

The next Chair will have the unique opportunity to collaborate closely with the Dean on increasing the Department’s research profile, reputation, and visibility. The chair will be a tenurable faculty member at the rank of full professor, committed to the highest standards of research and teaching. It is preferred that candidates are nationally recognized and bring with them a robust research agenda and extramurally funded research grants as a principal investigator. The chair should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and will serve as a strong advocate for the department. Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in an academic discipline directly related to or encompassed within the NFS curriculum. A demonstrated commitment to promoting inclusive excellence throughout their career is essential. NFS is housed on George Mason’s main campus in Fairfax, Virginia in the state-of-the-art Peterson Family Health Sciences Hall that opened in 2018. The 165,000-square-foot facility includes classrooms, offices, a health clinic, wet labs, and a nutrition kitchen. With four tenured/tenure track faculty, as well four full time term instructional faculty and 20 adjunct faculty, there is departmental expertise in both research and teaching.

Inquiries, nominations, and applications are invited. Interested candidates should submit confidentially, in electronic form (Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF files preferred), a curriculum vitae and letter of interest to GMU_NFS@russellreynolds.com.

Though all materials received will be reviewed, please submit materials by October 16, 2023, for priority consideration.
