Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities
VCU School of Nursing is seeking an Academic Advisor to serve our undergraduate students. As such, the advisor:
- Provides guidance and direction to students concerning academic matters and factors affecting academic performance in order to facilitate success in the program.
- Works with students, faculty, and other stakeholders from the point of admission through graduation to ensure academic success.
- Is accountable for undergraduate students’ plans of study and files; monitors student progress through the program; maintains continuous contact with their assigned students in order to provide information and guidance; ensures that students have necessary information to be certified for graduation in a timely manner.
- Develops, interprets, documents, implements, assesses, and applies School of Nursing, University and State policies and procedures to ensure the most efficient and effective delivery of student support services.
- Knowledgeable about academic programs, policies, procedures, and student support services within the scope of responsibilities.
- Works with other support services at VCU to facilitate advisement, student progression, and development.
- Maintains accurate records for reporting as required.
- Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and coordination of other activities to facilitate student advising, progression and success.
- Provide excellent customer service to students, faculty, SON leadership and other constituents.
- Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Hiring Standards
 A minimum of one year professional relevant work experience in higher education or a related field.
 Ability to manage multiple work priorities, work under pressure, meet deadlines, and work independently and cooperatively as a team member.
 Ability to prioritize; organize; coordinate programs; attention to detail; follow instructions; accuracy and adhere to project deadlines.
 Ability to quickly learn new programs and applications.
 Goal-driven, self-directed and creative with excellent problem-solving strategies, interpersonal, verbal and written skills.
 Commitment to diversity, inclusion and equity.
 Data entry and Computer proficiency, especially Microsoft Suite and ability to learn new software and technology.
 Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Higher Education Administration, or other related degree from an accredited college or university. Preferred Hiring Standards
 Master’s degree in Counseling, Higher Education Administration, or other related degree from an accredited college or university. Computer proficiency in university software (e.g. Google Suite, Banner, Redcap, etc.)
