Director of Student Services
Job Summary
The person in this position serves as the College’s chief financial steward and is responsible for facilities management, continuing legal education, faculty scholarship support, and building safety/emergency management. This person regularly interacts with students, faculty, staff, and vendors. This person also provides primary assistance to the Associate Dean of Academics for all Academic related tasks.
Job Scope
This is a full-time, 12-month, administrative position reporting to Dean of the College of Law.
Principle Responsibilities:
- Student Services: Liaison with Student Affairs to address student concerns and oversee law student organizations. Maintaining official files of law student organizations including constitutions, by-laws, officer rosters and membership lists. Coordinate Banner entry of student activities. Responsible for administrative management including authorizing student organizations’ expenditures, such as Moot Court, Law Review, Student Bar Association, Icelandic Legal Exchange Program, and Icelandic Summer Program. Oversee and assist in planning student organization activities, including Celebrezze Competition, Burke E. Smith Competition, Barristers Ball, guest speakers, continuing legal education programs, workshops and fundraisers. Conduct annual board orientation sessions for Law Review and Moot Court, conduct officer orientations for student organizations. Provide administrative oversight to Law Review and Moot Court administration, to include coordinating travel of competition teams
Event Planning: Liaison with Dining Services and numerous outside vendors to coordinate College events both on and off-campus. Responsible for planning and supervising staff in coordinating law school events, receptions, non-academic student activities and other functions. Oversee administration of Commencement, Honors Banquet, some parts of orientation and accepted students days, bar admissions receptions, Law Review, Carhart Symposium, Kormendy Lecture, college events, Third District Court of Appeals annual visit, on-site sessions of the Ohio Supreme Court and numerous receptions and programs. Responsibilities include overseeing preparation of invitations, brochures, publicity materials, news releases, catering selections, room reservations and travel vouchers. Oversee commencement in conjunction with Registrar and President’s Office including establishing dates and deadlines, creating website content, coordination of class composite, coordination of event photographs, management of student volunteers, selection of student participants (singers and invocation) and creation of the Commencement Program. Coordinate special events such as the continuing education program of the West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church and the Ohio State Bar Association. Work with students, faculty and outside organizations in hosting panels, speakers and workshops. Oversee catering and vendor selection. Facilities: Liaison with Physical Plant for general maintenance, repairs and custodial services and with Project Manager for building projects Oversee, direct, and coordinate efforts between the University Physical Plant, law school maintenance staff, building committee, and the dean to maintain and improve the law school facility and grounds to including setting priorities for projects, setting budget guidelines, approving contracts Oversee capital improvement projects, handling matters related to bids, vendor selection and contract negotiations; monitor construction to ensure compliance with specifications Chair building construction projects, assist in vendor selection and manage budget Coordinate summer projects Supervise the coordination of building access Responsible for maintaining appearance of building including interior and exterior signage, bulletin boards, and showcases Oversee Continuing Legal Education: Manage approximately 7-10 programs annually. Building Safety/Emergency Management: Liaison with Campus Security and the Director of Risk Management. Perform other duties as assigned.
