Job Details
The University of North Alabama’s department of Engineering and Industrial Professions (http://www.una.edu/eip/) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level, specializing in Manufacturing Engineering. This position will have teaching responsibilities that involve instruction at both UNA’s main campus located in Florence, AL, and at the Guizhou University-University of North Alabama International College of Engineering and Technology located in Guiyang, China. The standard teaching load for this position is 12 credit hours per semester, with all instruction being provided in English. This position will begin in Spring 2024. Initial review of applications will begin on October 15, 2023, and continue until the position is filled.
The University of North Alabama is located in the vibrant Florence/Muscle Shoals region, which offers a moderate climate, numerous cultural opportunities, and a high quality of life. The department is housed in the 162,000-square-foot Mitchell M. Burford Science and Technology Building, with state-of-the-art office, classroom, and laboratory facilities.
The successful candidate will be expected to: Teach program-related coursework in applied manufacturing engineering related, but not limited to: engineering analysis and simulation, manufacturing systems design and economics, quality management and Six Sigma, advanced engineering principles, preventative maintenance/reliability engineering; Develop curricula related, but not limited to: applied manufacturing engineering; Advise and mentor students; Participate in scholarly activity; Participate in service to the University, college, department, and profession; support the department’s current accreditation process; and perform all other duties as assigned. Individuals appointed at the tenure-track, assistant professor level are also expected to engage in scholarship and research as is appropriate to the application and receipt of tenure and promotion at UNA.
Minimum qualifications for this position include:
- A Ph.D. in manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, or a relevant engineering field is required; Industry experience in manufacturing engineering is preferred; Teaching experience at the college/university level is preferred; Written and spoken fluency in English is required; Fluency in Mandarin/Southwest Mandarin is desired; Certifications relevant to Manufacturing Engineering (CMfgE, Six Sigma, PE, etc.) are preferred but not required.
Additional knowledge, skills, and abilities include: Demonstrated experience and skills working with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff; demonstrated ethical and professional behavior; excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; ability and/or desire to teach and/or learn to teach a varied and evolving curriculum and the ability to demonstrate written and spoken fluency in English (fluency in Mandarin/Southwest Mandarin is desired, but not required.)
