Position Summary:
The Office of Inclusive Excellence is deeply committed to creating an inclusive campus environment for all members of the New Jersey Institute of Technology community where a sense of belonging is fostered and sustained. The Office of Inclusive Excellence was founded at NJIT in the Spring of 2023 under the leadership of the inaugural Chief Diversity Officer and is well positioned and resourced to be a valuable contributor to the NJIT campus community and its external partners. We achieve our mission through the collaboration and partnership with internal and external stakeholders to collectively work toward greater equity, inclusion and belonging for our diverse campus community.

The Office of Inclusive Excellence at New Jersey Institute of Technology seeks applicants for a Program Coordinator to join its team. The individual in this role will support and work closely with the Associate Director for the Office of Inclusive Excellence on a variety of activities related to the office's events and programming. The Program Coordinator will directly oversee all identity-based student organizations at NJIT and work closely with the identity-based student organization faculty/staff advisors to ensure the student organizations are successful and are equipped with resources and various methods of support. The Program Coordinator will also manage communication efforts for the office such as social media, newsletter, marketing, and promotions. This position will report directly to Associate Director for the Office of Inclusive Excellence.

NJIT student diversity continues to increase and with that is an increase of student identity-based organizations that specializes in serving students from historically underrepresented backgrounds. The Program Coordinator role will be a critical role to overseeing student identity-based organizations, attending student identity-based organization events, meetings, and programs, and providing leadership development guidance to undergraduate and graduate diverse student populations, as well as support to the faculty/staff advisors of these student organizations.

The Program Coordinator will work alongside the Associate Director to coordinate and oversee events such as the BIPOC / Lavender Pre-Commencement Ceremony, MLK Day of Service and Heritage Month Celebration events. The Program Coordinator will serve as an office representative at signature university events such as New Student Orientation, Open House, Homecoming, Admitted New Students Day, etc. This role is critical because it will provide direct student contact and engagement and will work to build out mentoring opportunities between the Office of Inclusive Excellence and the students the office interacts with.

Essential Functions:
- Provides end-to-end event or project management support for a variety of annual programs and event series, as well as individual events that the Office of Inclusive Excellence hosts throughout the academic year.

- Oversee the identity-based student organizations and support the organization faculty/staff advisors as well as working closely with Student Senate to advise student organizations on process, planning and program implementation.

- Manage communication efforts for the office including social media, newsletters, updating website, flyers, and marketing and promotion.

- Works with vendors, caterers, and other event services providers to ensure seamless events and programs.

- At times, provides additional administrative and operational support, such as assisting with budgets, placing orders, serving as back-up for answering the main phone line, etc.

- Foster a DEIB lens in relationship to STEM and bring a focus on how to advance DEIB in the STEM discipline, particularly identifying ways to advance engagement among women and underrepresented populations in STEM.

- Performs other duties as assigned.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and at least 1-2 years of experience in event planning, advising and/or programming support.

- Superior attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.

- Excellent interpersonal as well as verbal and written communication skills, including marketing, websites, social media, etc.

- Familiar with Microsoft Office (word, PowerPoint, excel).

- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic and fast-moving environment.

- Ability to work in a diverse setting and be culturally inclusive of others.

- At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Three or more years of experience in event planning and/or programming support, preferably in a higher education setting.

- Advanced experience in marketing and communications.
