Position Purpose
The primary function of the Assistant Director, Greater Kansas City Writing Project ( GKCWP ) is to collaborate with the Director to provide leadership and coordination for the development and administration of the National Writing Project’s site serving Kansas City and administratively housed at the University of Central Missouri ( UCM ). The following responsibilities are key components of the GKCWP Assistant Director’s position:
1. Manage programmatic activities including graduate courses for teachers, creative writing workshops for students, school-based in-service, ongoing professional development programs for GKCWP teacher leaders, and other activities as deemed necessary, on an annual basis.
2. Collaborate with GKCWP co-directors, advisory committee, team members, and UCM stakeholders to build relationships with preK-12 teachers and school administrators in the Greater Kansas City area (both in Missouri and Kansas) and throughout the State of Missouri.
3. Oversee administrative support for program participants.
4. Actively pursue external funding through grants and gifts to assist in the financial support of the GKCWP programming and operating costs.
5. Provide scheduled and ad hoc reports for UCM, the National Writing Project, and other funders as required by institutional and funder guidelines.
