Position Announcement
Under the direction of the Director of Multicultural Student Services, the Program Director provides support services, creates and implements retention and completion efforts, and establishes connections to community resources for UVU students who identify under the African Diaspora. The Program Director collaborates closely with other campus entities and community organizations to provide a safe and supportive environment conducive to student success.

Summary of Responsibilities
25% Directs the day-to-day operations of the African Diaspora Initiative. Provides and develops programming, strategic planning, assessment, and evaluation.
25% Collaborates with various campus stakeholders and community organizations/resources to coordinate and develop culturally appropriate interventions and efforts to achieve institutional retention and completion outcomes.
20% Creates strategic internal and external partnerships to increase opportunities for leadership, learning, community-building, and academic success for students self-identifying under the African Diaspora at UVU.
10% Manages program budget, program assessment, and policy compliance.
10% Directs marketing to promote and disseminate information about the UVU African Diaspora Initiative.
10% Develop fundraising opportunities to increase the viability, sustainability, and productivity of this program. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with a master's degree and two years of experience directly related to the Summary of Duties OR a bachelor's degree plus four years of directly related experience and/or any combination of education and/or experience directly related to the Summary of Duties totaling eight years.

Graduation from an accredited institution with a master's degree and two years of experience directly related to the Summary of Duties totaling eight years.

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities
Knowledge
  • Demonstrates significant understanding of culture and ethnicity under the African Diaspora.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of retention and completion strategies for students who self-identify under the African Diaspora.
  • Demonstrates significant understanding of Black/African-American identities within higher education contexts.
  • Demonstrated experience advising college students and/or student organizations grounded in theoretical framework.
  • Knowledge of and experience in developing and presenting training programs and/or workshops for employees and students.
  • Knowledge of higher education.
  • Knowledge of fundraising methods.
Skills
  • Demonstrated skill in supervising and providing direction to staff, student employees, and volunteers.
  • Must possess strong communication skills in both written and verbal formats.
  • Must possess strong skills in facilitating dialogues directly related to diversity, inclusion, equity, and Black/African-American issues.
  • Must possess skill in preparing and managing budgets.
  • Must demonstrate interpersonal, technical, analytical, marketing and resource development skills necessary for program effectiveness.
  • Demonstrated competency in computer software and diverse programs necessary for position responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated skills in developing professional relationships with students.
Abilities
  • Ability to provide one-on-one support and resources for students that include but are not limited to: dealing with identity development, coping with campus climate concerns, struggling with academic demands, etc.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to foster and build collaborative work environments.
  • Ability to work successfully with a diverse student body and staff and possess a strong commitment to creating an inclusive environment for staff and students, the delivery of programs that support the diversity objective of the campus community, and the development of cultural competency skills.
  • Ability to plan and execute small- and large-scale events.
  • Ability to foster collaborative efforts with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to serve on community committees and build effective partnerships.
