The Director of Counseling Services is
responsible for the overall development, planning and operation of
Aurora University's counseling services program. This includes
intentional management of referrals to TimelyCare, AtJ's 24/7
medical and mental telehealth service. The Director serves as a key
member of the University's Behavioral Intervention Team, which is
responsible for determining appropriate interventions for students
who may be disruptive or distressed. The Director provides ongoing
review of services offered, including assessment of student needs
and utilization of services, both in-person and via

Implement screening, assessment, diagnosis, case management and
treatment planning tools to provide students with needed services
via telehealth referrals and/or in-person clinical services.
Serve as a member of the Behavioral Intervention Team.
Provide short-term clinical counseling services within a
culturally competent framework to university and undergraduate and

Serve as a campus community mental health expert offering
consultative services to faculty, staff, administrations, athletic
staff and families in a variety of modalities ranging from informal
individual consultation to structured workshops and trainings
Provide risk assessments and make appropriate recommendations
Provide substance abuse or behavioral health assessments after
disciplinary violations to provide recommendations regarding
treatment and to inform necessary sanctions or corrective
Participate in campus outreach initiatives and activities.
Essential Job Requirements:
- Masters or Doctoral degree in a mental health discipline
(SocialWork, Counseling or Clinical Psychology) and licensed as a
mental health provider in the state of Illinois required
- A minimum of four years post-licensure supervised experience or
equivalent combination of education, experience and licensure
- Experience in a higher education environment (preferred) and/or
with adults and young adults required,
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, with a high degree
of independent organization, communication, and ethical
- Clinical experience relevant to working with college students
or young adult populations.
- Experience providing crisis intervention.
- Well-developed public speaking skills; interest and comfort in
providing outreach and consultation to groups.
- Ability to develop strong collaborative working relationships
with all campus constituencies.
- Be available outside of work hours ("on call") for consultation
regarding referrals to the Behavioral lntervention Team and/or
other crises as appropriate.
- Eligible for state licensure as a mental health provider as
outlined b the Illinois Department of FinanciaI and Professional
Regulation (www.idfpr.com ).
