Position Title: Assistant Director of Student Belonging

Department: Student Involvement & Development

Advertised Pay: Lower to upper $50,000's

Campus Location: Washburn University

Position Summary: The Assistant Director of Student Belonging will create and implement programs/trainings focused on belonging and inclusion. This position will be a direct resource for students/student organizations.

Essential Functions:
• Collaborate with campus partners, and lead the identification, design, and implementation of resources on and off campus, workshops, presentations, programs, and services that create and foster an inclusive environment for learning, living, and student belonging.
• Assess issues and trends impacting student belonging, benchmark best practices, and develop systems to affect change unique to our campus and community.
• Facilitate multicultural education training for students to explore and provide critical reflection on issues of diversity, inclusion, belonging, culture, ability, ethnicity, gender, race, religion, social class, sexual orientation, and other significant aspects of individual and cultural identities.
• Provide resources and support to multicultural and nontraditional student organizations.
• Foster and develop partnerships to support a sense of belonging, multicultural advancement, and celebratory programs.
• Supervise and train student staff in the Multicultural Intersectional Learning Space.
• Refer students to relevant educational, campus and community resources.
• Attend trainings or meetings, as directed, to support effectiveness within the position as required.
• Participate in campus-wide initiatives sponsored by the Office of Student Life.
• All other duties as assigned by the Director of The Office of Student Involvement and Development.
• Performs additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate.

Required Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in college student personnel, public administration, higher education administration, or a similar area of study and one year of post-undergraduate experience working with college students or with diversity/inclusion programs/initiatives in an advisory capacity.
• Or a bachelor’s degree in college student personnel, public administration, higher education administration, or a similar area of study and three years of post-undergraduate experience working with college students or with diversity/inclusion programs/initiatives in an advisory capacity.
Proven effective interpersonal, communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
• Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
• Demonstrated effective computer skills with the ability to learn new software programs.
• Demonstrated ability or experience presenting to large audiences.
• Proven knowledge of diversity/inclusion/belonging topics, including current research, national trends in higher education, and theoretical models.
• Demonstrated comfortability with conflict and ability to manage difficult conversations in training and workshop settings.
• Ability to stay current on issues of equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging as it relates to the higher education landscape as well as national issues.

Physical Requirements:
• Ability to work, as needed, outside normal business hours to meet the needs of the department/students.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Two to three years of experience working as a professional or in a leadership position with student groups or organizations, or diversity/inclusion/intersectionality campus programming.
• Experience in graphic design for marketing and promotional materials.
• Knowledge of assessment and strategic planning experience.
