The Assistant Coach will coach undergraduate Brownson Speech and Debate students in two areas of expertise up to 6 hours per week during the academic year of competition (Sept-April).

Duties and Responsibilities:

This coach will also travel, chaperone students, and serve as a judge approximately 3 weekends per year as needed. The assistant coach will provide written updates of student progress to the Head Coach and Director on a monthly basis. The assistant travel coach needs to be familiar with the mission, vision, philosophy and processes of the Brownson team and complete the University's Title IX training course. This coach needs to possess strong interpersonal and leadership skills, and evidence of ability to work with students and coaches in an environment committed to promoting the Catholic mission of the university. A valid drivers license is also required for this position.

Required Qualifications:

1. On campus coaching in two core areas of expertise to include, but not limited to IPDA Debate, Limited Preparation Events, Public Address Events or Oral Interpretation ~ 40% of Time
2. Travel to approx. 3 weekends per year as needed. Travel includes supervision of students, driving when needed, and judging. Purchase lunches and lead extemp prep breaking news reports/discussions. Motivate students between rounds. Ensure safety of all students at all times. ~ 40% of Time
3. Maintain student coaching notes, win-loss records and qualification data while at tournaments. ~ 10% of Time
4. Provide assessments of student work to head coach and director after coaching sessions. Maintain an active role in topic searches and event re-designs prior to the national tournament(s). ~ 10% of Time
