Position Postdoctoral Researcher in Material Magnetism (Environmental Geology) Full Time/Part Time Full Time Job Type Term Appointment Position Summary
The NSF funded PREM project titled “NMHU-BioPACIFIC MIP collaboration in design, synthesis and applications of metal-organic hybrid biomaterials” (BioPREM) is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to study magnetism in synthetic, inorganic, organic, bio- and natural materials and minerals. The successful candidate will conduct his/her research under supervision of the Environmental Geology program at NMHU .

The Postdoctoral researcher’s responsibilities are advancing the goals of the BioPREM collaboration by working with faculty and students to advance our understanding of how to design new materials and improve materials modeling and synthesis capabilities. The research teams goals are to unlock the potential of metal-organic frameworks, biomaterials, and hybrid organic-inorganic materials to establish a new area of materials science research at NMHU . Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead BioPREM collaboration projects in magnetism, supervise graduate, undergraduate students, and others in research projects.
  • Maintain various magnetic laboratory instrumentation.
  • Instruct students, visitors, faculty and staff in operation of laboratory equipment, data acquisition, and application of scientific methodology to research problems.
  • Seek external funding to conduct independent research aligned with his/her scientific interests and to support graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Perform other job-related duties and field work as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
  • Ph.D. in geophysics with expertise in materials and/or mineral magnetism.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience operating and maintaining magnetic laboratory instrumentation (hysteresis, remanence, and susceptibility equipment).
  • Programming experience and troubleshooting computer-hardware.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the operation of magnetic laboratory equipment, data collection, analysis, data management, and quality control.
  • Potential to develop an externally funded research program involving student research.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills as demonstrated by conference presentations, community engagement, and peer-reviewed publications.

  • Investigate applications of bio-inspired materials related to magnetic properties.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience performing data collection, analysis, management, and sample preparation for material magnetism research.
  • Demonstrate commitment to working effectively with diverse faculty, staff, and students
  • Advance understanding and applications of magnetic material structures
Physical Demands Working Environment
  • Administrative work performed in a typical interior/office setting
  • Material magnetic laboratory environment with highly delicate and sensitive equipment
  • Field work to collect natural materials and training activities.
