Job Description Summary

Job Description

Project Manager responsibilities begin with project inception and continue through final closeout and include working with Venture Lab staff, Wharton Operations, Penn Business Services, Risk Management, Office of General Council, and various School/Center representatives throughout the process of setting up point-of-sale (POS) at the Tangen Hall Retail Lab.

This position will be responsible for assessing requirements and obtaining all necessary documentation and certification for setting up POS at the Retail Lab. This includes but is not limited to obtaining space plans suitable for retail use (building code, compliance, zoning, etc.), and submitting plans and applications for rezoning to the City of Philadelphia. The project manager will work with Penn Controller's office and tax authorities on changing tax status/tax adjustments to reflect new space zoning.

The project manager must be well-versed in the design process, construction methodologies and procedures, and project management principles and can read and interpret design and construction contracts and contract documents, including drawings, specifications, payment applications, etc.

The project manager will work with Venture Lab staff, architects, and various School/Center representatives on selecting the POS system(s) for the space. The project manager will assess requirements and develop a process for students to obtain necessary permissions/certifications/training to conduct sales at the Retail Lab.

This position will report directly to the Director, Venture Initiation Program with a dotted line to the Director of Operations for oversight of building requirements, permits, etc. The expectation is for this individual to work closely with the Director of Operations during this project.

This is a temporary position that is contingent upon funding. The project is expected to be completed by September 1, 2023.

Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a campus environment similar to the University of Pennsylvania is preferred.
  • Previous experience working with the City of Philadelphia to obtain permits is preferred.
  • Previous experience developing project timelines is required.
  • Experience and knowledge of POS systems and technologies are preferred.
  • Experience/knowledge of retail operations is highly preferred.
