Position Summary:
Job Summary
The Network & Systems Administrator position reports directly to the Director of Network & Systems, within the Office of Information Technology. They are part of a critical team who is responsible for the management of a multi-datacenter infrastructure environment with primary responsibilities including all aspects of edge networking and other cable plant infrastructure.The Network Administrator is expected to have a strong understanding of network infrastructure and network hardware. They must be able to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network devices including access points, firewalls, routers, switches, and wireless controllers. This individual will provide server and application administration for campus systems to meet the demands of a dynamic residential academic environment. This position is defined as a non-exempt position under FLSA regulations.Specific Responsibilities
  • Server Administration - Provides systems administration for servers and applications Network performance monitoring
  • Edge Enabled Technology Services Administration - Provides planning, execution and support for edge network equipment.
  • Data Storage - Perform all areas of storage, back-up, and archive retention administration for both on premise, co-location and cloud-based, including strategic resource planning for storage and back-up needs in the enterprise VM infrastructure and physical server enterprise applications.
  • Business Continuity - Provides planning, execution and support for university disaster recovery and business contingency planning for two on-campus data centers and off-premise technology assets. Builds, monitors, and tests system backups and recovery. Develops solutions that meet university defined needs around Recovery Point Objective (RPO) and Recovery Time Objective (RTO) strategies.
  • General - On-call rotation that may require after-hours support. Perform emergency support services during evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary to support the 24 × 7 information needs of students, faculty, and staff. Contributes to the overall success of Office of Information Technology and the university by performing other duties and responsibilities as needed.
    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Demonstrated experience with LAN internetworking, including IP switching and routing, TCP/IP, Ethernet, multicasting, and remote access.
  • Strong troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving abilities with hardware, software, and other network or system problems.
  • Ability to manage local LAN traffic and inbound/outbound traffic to guarantee the most efficient use of the available resources
  • Advanced knowledge of enterprise level network, security, and network access control systems
  • Assists in ensuring the security and integrity of the College's information systems and data assets
  • Experience with the design and implementation of internetworks and related systems, including IP, DNS, DHCP, SNMP, SMTP, and Radius
  • Expert ability in monitoring and alerting on performance, status, availability, and latency of network and security equipment
  • This position combines technical expertise with a strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and practices to identify, assess, and mitigate potential security risks.
  • Experience with disaster recovery and infrastructure deployment
  • Experience with data center design and implementation, facilities management and design, network engineering, and network infrastructure
  • Knowledge of Windows servers, server virtualization technology, and requirements analysis
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Knowledge of technical writing and documentation
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Knowledge of Windows and Mac printing environment

    Required Qualifications:
    Education and Experience - Required QualificationsAssociates degree in Network Administration with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience. IT support experience to include strong systems administration and the management of a complex enterprise converged network. Must be a lifelong learner and a genuine fan of technology enhanced living.

    Education and Experience -Preferred QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Information Technology network emphasis with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience. Experience in a higher education, liberal arts campus setting.
