About the Opportunity
The Biopharmaceutical Analysis and Training Laboratory (BATL), located at the Northeastern University Innovation Campus in Burlington, MA, fosters a culture of research, innovation, education, and training in biomanufacturing, analysis, and regulatory convergence that is accessible to students, scientists, engineers, regulators, clinical researchers, and pharmaceutical sector stakeholders. BATL's integrated framework unifies research, education/training, and industry practice to facilitate knowledge innovation and transition into the workforce, and ultimately informing standard regulations.
Reporting to the Regional Economic Competitiveness Officer, the Program Coordinator will support the delivery of the Amgen Biotech Experience (ABE), an innovative science education program that provides professional development for teachers, teaching materials, laboratory supplies, and research-grade equipment loans to secondary schools. Northeastern manages the delivery of this program, which features a hands-on molecular biology curriculum that introduces students to the excitement of scientific discovery. The Program Coordinator will work with the Northeastern ABE team to facilitate delivery of professional development institutes (PDIs) for training teachers and managing schools involved in the program. Specifically, the Program Coordinator will provide technical support for the program, including the procurement and maintenance of consumables and equipment, preparation of reagents, and manage the provision of equipment loan and consumables to schools.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree, preferably in the life sciences, or
equivalent education and experience and minimum 1 year experience
of working in a laboratory environment; experience in science
education and/or science communication a plus.
- Strong scientific skills, technical skills, decision-making and
problem-solving skills with proven experience in maintaining
equipment and trouble-shooting operational problems.
- Excellent oral, writing, and interpersonal skills;
professionalism in dealing with teachers, students, colleagues, and
the general public in person, on the telephone and by
email.
- Excellent organizational, financial, and administrative skills
with high level of accuracy and attention to detail; familiarity
with Microsoft Office and Google Suites.
- Proven ability to manage a diverse workload and deliver high
quality completed projects to tight deadlines.
- Experience in coordinating projects engaging the public,
teachers, or young people.
- Proven experience in establishing and developing a diverse
range of effective partnerships.
- Proven track record in reporting and evaluating project
performance.
- Event management skills.
- Experience developing promotional materials a plus.
- Enthusiasm, innovation, and flexibility in responding to the
requirements of the post, which may require flexible hours and will
require travel between sites.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
1) Manage salaries, fringe benefits, equipment and supplies, professional costs and subcontracts over three years of the lab's grant. Oversee the ABE budget of approximately $200,000 a year.
2) Spearhead all ABE-related professional development projects for high school teachers and students, on and off-site. Provide education and training initiatives for public school pupils and teachers through activities such as professional development workshops.
3) Manage the entire ABE program and processes related to training, including building relationships with vendors and public-school systems as well as administering the ABE program.
4) Prepare lab materials, including cleaning, tidying, maintaining and transporting lab equipment.
5) Other duties as assigned.
