    Department Summary

    University Health Services (UHS) is a unit within the Division of Student Services and Enrollment Management and is a nationally accredited (AAAHC) outpatient clinic providing primary care to students at the University of Oregon. All staff are required to uphold the values of the UHS.

    The "Advanced Insurance Registration and Billing Clerk “and the “Insurance Billing and Advanced Registration Specialist” works in support of the University Health Services mission and vision and is consistent with UO policy. Some aspects of these positions may be completed in collaboration with other University departments.

    Position Summary

    “The Advanced Insurance Registration and Billing Clerk “and the “Insurance Billing and Advanced Registration Specialist” positions are staff members of the Billing Services team at UHS. This team is focused on the accuracy and efficiency of Insurance registration and billing for the student population.

    These positions will provide direct services to students, parents, insurance carriers, and physician offices on the various insurance plans, as well as monitoring and adapting program changes as needed. They will also provide billing services with daily Billing functions including posting payments and providing billing information to students. These positions will provide back up for each other while staying effective in their individual job duties.

    Insurance Billing and Advanced Registration Specialist:

    The Insurance Billing and Advanced Registration Specialist position is responsible for multiple phases of the billing process and ensuring acceptable cash flow and appropriate days in accounts receivable by timely follow-up and resolution of balances owed by third-party payers and patients. Billing functions may include all or some of the following: data entry of billing information; preparing initial billing, including recording any discrepancies onto a permanent record; post payments into the billing system; providing billing and account information to patients, clients, and insurance companies; and reconcile and prepare daily bank deposits and receipts.

    Advanced Insurance Registration and Billing Clerk:

    This position will assist in all aspects of the student Registration for the Billing Services Department at UHS; Assist students in processing of CCare applications; Serve as a patient advocate regarding issues around both UO and private insurance, including OHP, PIP and WC. They will also act as a resource regarding the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and insurance options for students. This position will provide in person contact for students inquiring about UHS charges, billing questions, insurance verification, and community resources.

    Minimum Requirements

  • Three years of office experience which included two years at full performance level and experience generating documents: and
  • Lead work responsibility or coordination of office procedures.

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to exercise sound, independent judgment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Oregon Health Plan (OHP) rules and regulations.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of recent experience in health insurance billing and accounts receivable management and reconciliation, including Personal Insurance Protection (PIP) and Worker's Compensation billing, ICD-10, HCPC, and CPT coding with the use of modifiers.
  • One year of experience working with electronic insurance registration and verification.
  • Recent experience providing insurance and billing customer service within a healthcare setting.
  • Recent experience working with electronic health records and billing software.
  • Experience in Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) billing including, but not limited to, EDI edits, enrollment, submissions, claim tracking, and Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA).
  • Experience with CCare billing and policies.
  • Experience with provider credentialing and DMAP enrollment.
  • Experience in physical therapy, laboratory, pharmacy, dental, and radiology coding and billing.
  • Demonstrated understanding of medical terminology.
