The Department of Teacher Education at Kentucky Wesleyan College invites applications from a diverse group of qualified applicants for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Education to begin August 2022. The Department is seeking candidates who have a passion for taking leadership roles within the institution and the community, support undergraduate programs, assist in the development of graduate programs, engaging in and promoting research in STEM education, and supporting the College and Professional Studies Department strategic goals.

 

Candidates must have knowledge, skills and interest in science, math, or technology education teaching and professional development. Candidates are expected to teach math and science education courses for elementary, middle, and secondary (biology and chemistry) teacher candidates, as well as work with student teachers in a variety of areas. Candidates are expected to meet the requirements for excellence in teaching and professional work, and service to the college and community.

 

Major Responsibilities

 

  • Teach a variety of courses related to elementary, middle, and secondary math and science methods and/or common foundational courses including but not limited: Foundations of Education, Educational Technology, Educational Assessment, Diversity, and Classroom Management
  • Advise students in middle, secondary, and/or P-12 education major tracks
  • Engage in service-learning activities, leadership, and professional development opportunities
  • Serve as faculty advisor to student organizations
  • Assist students with tutoring to prepare and pass the PRAXIS examination
  • Work on state and/or national accreditations
  • Supervise and evaluate student teachers up to four times per semester
  • Represent the Teacher Education Department at recruitment events
  • Teach both undergraduate, graduate, and online students

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • A terminal degree of PhD or EdD in Teacher Education with an emphasis in STEM; additional emphasis in Biology would be desired; ABD considered (to be completed by the time of appointment)
  • Five years of P-12 teaching experience in a STEM related field
  • University/College teaching expertise required in educational fields including foundations and science, math, or technology
  • A commitment to undergraduate teaching and development of graduate and online programming
  • Enthusiastic and dynamic
  • Ability to interact professionally with a diverse community including local school districts and other community partners
  • Drive and desire to develop a strong, high-quality program in STEM areas which expose students to a variety of educational opportunities.
