The Department of American Studies at The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a full-time lecturer (Assistant Professor of Instruction) to teach the following courses in Urban Studies:
- Introduction to Urban Studies (URB301)
- Race, Social Justice, and the City (URB322R)
- Urban Studies Research Methods (URB315)
- Internship and Service Learning (URB360)
- Senior Project (URB370)
- One additional course of the applicant's choosing
Please note this position starts in January 2024. The position is a full time, 9-month position and carries a 3 course per semester teaching load in spring and fall. The ideal applicant will have experience relevant to diverse career paths including the public, private, and non-profit sectors. Responsibilities include developing and revising syllabi, grading assignments and exams, maintaining grade records, consulting with students, and overseeing the learning management system (Canvas). Some administrative responsibilities associated with the Urban Studies degree and the American Studies department are also associated with the position. Initial appointment is for one year, with expectation of renewal based on performance and availability of funding.
Qualifications
A PhD in a field such as urban geography, community and regional planning, urban development, urban sociology, urban anthropology or the equivalent is required, as well as teaching experience. Strong candidates will be able to demonstrate evidence of teaching excellence, experience with instructional design, and experience working in or with public, private, and non-profit organizations.
