Schedule Information: Varying hours Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with occasional evening hours.
Hours per Week: 25

Work Conditions: Work is primarily indoor and sedentary in nature.
Duties of Position: Provides academic guidance to AED students in addition to assistance in recruitment, retention, and student success. Works with AED team to register, place and test students. Provides program information and individual assessment and referral to other departments at Harper College or to community agencies.
Recruitment, Registration/Assessment, and Orientation
Assists in the recruitment and retention of AED students.
Participates in the AED general and on-going student registration/intake and placement processes.
Together with students, develops Educational plans to reflect their goals and follows up with students who have Educational Transition Plans.
Administers standardized Adult Education tests as needed.
Provides initial appropriate individual student guidance; refers to advisors in Student Development, or other support services / community agencies.
Guidance, Transition, and Coordination with Student Development
Guides students planning to transition to college, as follows:
Directs student follow-up activities including contacting students who have or have not completed the program.
Conducts recognition activities for AED student accomplishments and student contributions.
Serves as liaison with Student Development to connect Adult learners with appropriate Area of Interest (AOE) advisors; may advocate for student need for financial assistance with Financial Aid, Women’s Program, and/or scholarship assistance.
Assists in the management of the HSE Graduate scholarship funds with Financial Aid Office.
Maintains files of community agencies and serves as a resource for student referrals.
Assists students in locating and using educational, career, and vocational information.
Maintains Integrated Education & Training or ICAPS cohorts to completion, keeping accurate records of credentials for ICCB AE reporting.
Assists students holistically by attending to academic and non-academic needs including referral to ADS for support and/or specialized advising and counseling needs.
Conducts interviews and refers students for testing of and monitoring of special needs, such as learning disabilities, behavioral disorders, visual impairments, or physical disabilities.
Conducts student surveys to determine academic and vocational interests.
Serves as a liaison between the AED Department and other Harper Departments as well as community agencies.
Serves on committees and task forces in the college and community to provide for improved student services and increased networking.
Maintains current knowledge on Transition models under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, taking advantage of applicable professional development.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or related area plus fluency in Spanish.
Experience Requirements: Minimum two years’ experience in adult education, advising or social work.
