Department: Leon Hess Business School

Position Summary:
As a Center of Distinction, the Kislak Real Estate Institute was founded upon the strong connection and relationship with real estate practitioners. The Director is expected to develop and foster the strong relationships as well as develop new connections among the different sectors of the real estate industry that include both commercial and residential sectors. To support the real estate industry the Director in collaboration with the academic faculty of the Leon Hess Business School will ensure a curriculum that meets the needs of aspiring real estate professionals of today and tomorrow. The Director is expected to facilitate and address opportunities to help contribute toward the economic and societal improvement and growth of the state and beyond. As such, the Director of the Institute should be primarily responsible for developing resources including fundraising and fostering relationships in support of the Institute's programs and activities. The Director is expected to work with other University Centers of Distinction, especially the Urban Coast Institute, Polling Institute and Center for Entrepreneurship, to bring awareness and provide solutions to current societal issues in New Jersey.

This is a three year term which may be renewable.

This is an in-person on campus, non-remote position. For the 2022-2023 academic year, the University has implemented a pilot program allowing certain positions to request to work from home on an intermittent basis. Participation is subject to supervisor and division head approval and is dependent on operational need.

Masters in Business Administration, Doctoral degree, Business Doctorate (DBA) or Juris Doctorate.

Expertise in real estate, broadly defined:
  • Proven track record and expertise in real estate (e.g., assessment, development, investment/finance, policies, residential and commercial use, taxation, property rights, legal, and land use) required.
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying, cultivating, or motivating external boards or committees
  • Proven track record of success in establishing key professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders



Demonstrated success in building and leading teams; policy making; strategic planning; budget management;
Currency of scholarship/knowledge or scholarship/research related to real estate topics (e.g., assessment, development, investment/finance, policies, residential and commercial use, taxation, property rights, legal, and land use);
Experience in teaching topics in real estate (e.g., assessment, development, investment/finance, policies, residential and commercial use, taxation, property rights, legal, and land use);

Experience in identifying, developing, and effectively using financial resources to support the mission and organizational activities;
Ability to work within and cultivate diverse environments.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in student development and advising/mentoring;

Community engagement related to working with city/municipalities, state, regional real estate authorities.
