CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
The Opportunity
In February 2023, the Board of Trustees of the University of Florida welcomed Ben Sasse, Ph.D., as its 13th president. Dr. Sasse is an accomplished academic with a career spanning both the private and public sectors, and served as president at Midland University in Nebraska and a faculty member at the University of Texas at Austin. President Sasse has a mandate from the Board to accelerate the remarkable trajectory of success achieved by the University, to lead UF through an era of technological disruption and change, to help power Florida’s innovation economy, to create a life-changing and unrivaled student experience, and to cement the University’s place among the very finest public institutions in the nation.
The University of Florida has strengthened its ranking among the nation’s top-10 public universities, rising to the No. 5 position in the 2022 – 2023 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges. The Chief Financial Officer position at the UF is a highly visible role that serves as a strategic business partner to the President, Provost, and other senior leaders, while engaging frequently with the Board of Trustees. It is expected that the next CFO be someone who possesses the agility, horsepower, and value-additive mindset to execute on the mandate afforded by the ‘new governance standards’ to realize the One UF vision for the entirety of the university’s portfolio of operations. Above all, this person must exhibit and align to the core values of UF and be exceptional in people development and culture building.
The CFO serves as an institutional catalyst, stimulating sound financial management practices across the organization that support both change and the achievement of the strategic and financial objectives of the University. The CFO also serves as a role model for how to engage a variety of individuals with different perspectives to develop creative solutions to resources constraints.
