Job Details
This position is responsible for ensuring proper maintenance and repair of Art Department equipment to include ensuring the safe use of equipment and materials by students and faculty.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, and basic shop safety requirements. Broad knowledge of environmental health and safety procedures. The ability to repair and maintain power tools, 3-D Printers, digital laser cutters and equipment associated with various art making processes including, welding equipment, woodworking machines, kilns, pottery wheels, printing presses etc. Demonstrated ability to work in various climatic conditions and around materials typically used in the making of art (e.g., clay, ceramics dust, fibers, wood shop areas, printmaking, painting, sculpture, drawing mediums, metal shop etc.). Demonstrated ability to follow directions as well as work independently or as part of a team. Demonstrated ability to solve problems, ask questions, and think through solutions related to equipment maintenance and repair. Demonstrated ability to interpret, follow and explain safety rules, operating instructions, and procedural manuals to ensure compliance with the standards and best practices outlined by NASAD, (National Association of Schools of Art and Design) the national accreditation agency for college level art programs. Demonstrated ability to lift (up to 50 pounds); carry, push, or pull a variety of tools, equipment, and materials; reach, stoop, kneel, climb ladders, and crouch to gain access to spaces; work both indoors and outdoors; work with hand tools and power tools associated with the building trades; and be able to stand for long periods of time. The ability to maintain good working and professional relationships with ODU faculty, staff, students in a BA, BFA Studio Art program and a demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with people from diverse backgrounds.Considerable hands-on experience in repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment.Some experience working in a Facilities Management or similar organization.
