Responsibilities
The Instructor of Rhetoric & Communication is responsible for teaching fundamentals of strategic communications, public speaking, research, and writing in the Department of Rhetoric & Communication Studies. Candidate will assist Director(s) of the University Center for Languages, Rhetoric & Culture in the development, oversight, and management of public rhetoric programming and aspects of experiential learning for Johnson C. Smith University students. The Instructor of Rhetoric & Communication will lead internship efforts for the Department recruitment of qualified students with a commitment to success, compliance with university rules and regulations, and co-organizing and co-directing Department internships. The Instructor of Rhetoric & Communication will represent the University and the Department of Rhetoric & Communication Studies in a professional manner with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in communication and/or rhetoric or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution. Two (2) years of related research and work experience required; previous multimedia communication experience is helpful. Preferred ability to work non-traditional hours as evening rhetoric and speech lab coordinator in the JCSU Center for Languages, Rhetoric & Culture. Proven ability to work independently, prioritize, and complete tasks in a timely manner. Excellent communication skills required for working with diverse groups. Excellent organizational skills with accuracy and attention to detail. Commitment to the role of communications in a liberal arts setting. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
