Disability Services Manager, MSU-Meridian

Position Function:

The Disability Services Manager at MSU Meridian will provides direct services to students who submit disability accommodation requests, including assessment, advising, and referral in all matters related to accessibility to campus services. This individual is expected to provide the expertise necessary to address disability accommodations in health education settings as they will serve as a one-stop shop for disabilities services on the Meridian Campus. They will have primary responsibility to meet with students to consider accommodations needed and to provide outreach to students, staff, and faculty on disability related matters.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Conduct student access meetings, review clinical documentation, and determine disability status and need for accommodations.
2. Develop, implement, and monitor accommodation plans with students and faculty; Maintain timely and accurate electronic student records.
3. Counsel students on rights and responsibilities regarding academic accommodations, departmental policies and procedures, and University policies.
4. Consult with the Associate Vice President & Head of Campus on case management.
5. Coordinate the administration of exams for students with disabilities, including scheduling testing rooms with appropriate accommodations; coordinating with faculty and staff to arrange exam pick-up/return, reserving testing rooms and computer labs as needed, and proctoring, reading, or scribing for students when staffing is needed.
6. Provide individual and group demonstrations on technology support tools.
7. Develop and facilitate workshops on executive functioning, academic skills, and disability related issues.
8. May hire, train and supervise other staff needed to assist with exams, including proctors, readers, and scribes.
9. Monitor students' academic progress and make referrals to additional campus support services.
10. Attend and participate in campus committees and meetings as determined by the supervisor.
11. Become a member of appropriate professional organizations, such as Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD) and Coalition for Disability Access in Health Sciences Education (Coalition DAHSE), and participate in professional development opportunities to

Proficiently operate, troubleshoot, and train students and faculty on Assistive Technology used by students with disabilities, e.g. Kurzweil 3000, smart pens, Dragon dictation software, Zoomtext, Read&Write, GLEAN, etc. Create and upload assistive technology instructional videos as needed to the appropriate webpage for the campus.
13. Performs other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President & Head of Campus.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree
2. Three years of relevant work experience in disability services

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Master's degree
2. Five years relevant work experience in disability services in a health care education or professional medical environment

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

1. Requires limited lifting of files and records up to 25 pounds. Work is primarily performed in an indoor in a temperature-controlled facility.
2. Frequent externally imposed deadlines; interruptions influence priorities; difficult to anticipate nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days; meeting of deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to position; involves conflict-resolution or similar interactions involving emotional issues or stress on a regular basis.
3. Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.
