Job Description:

The Graduate Program in Clinical Counseling with specializations in Holistic Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Rehabilitation Counseling is creating a pool of eligible adjunct faculty for graduate teaching assignments online and on our Newport, Rhode Island campus. Courses will include Trauma-Informed Counseling, Working with Intimate Relationships in Counseling, Diagnosis and Treatment Planning, Assessment and Appraisal, Group Processing, Career Counseling, Substance Use in Counseling, Mental Health Counseling specific skill related courses (including basic skills, CBT, DBT, etc.), Medical and Psychosocial Aspects of Disabilities, Foundations of Rehabilitation Counseling, Research Methods, Professional Orientation and Ethics, Counseling Theories, Cultural Equity in Counseling, Theories of Counseling, etc.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Adjunct faculty are expected to:
  • Prepare and instruct classes assigned by the Graduate program director
  • Employ effective instructional methods to encourage student engagement, exploration, integration of assigned course material, class discussion, and professional ethics.
  • Include a pedagogy that supports competent discussions of and around the critical concerns of mercy (anti-racism, immigration, non-violence, women's issues, and the earth) and how they impact clients and the work we do with them as counselors
  • Supports integration of diversity, equity, and inclusion into curricular experiences to broaden the education of students and expand their knowledge and awareness
  • Hold class meetings in person on the Newport, RI campus or online (Zoom) or in person depending on the format of the class assigned (adjuncts will have options)
  • Use Canvas for interacting with students (grading, feedback, etc.)
  • Provide relevant and timely feedback and grades on submitted student work, including participation.
  • Work collaboratively with other instructors and the Graduate Program Director
  • Provide a course syllabus at the start of the semester to students and the Graduate program director (we have full and partial syllabi created)
  • Be available to meet with students if needed
  • Use Salve email to send and receive official email correspondence
  • Engage in professional activities to maintain licensure and/or compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies related to the faculty's respective program
  • Commitment to graduate and/or professional education and student success
  • Evaluate student achievement and development of clinical skills (when needed)
  • Assist in evaluating clinical sites and/or making recommendations about engaging in a new or renewed affiliation agreement with a particular clinical agency or practice (clinical course only)
  • Demonstrated commitment and contributions to an anti-racist working and learning environment

Requirements:
  • Minimum requirement is a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling and/or Rehabilitation Counseling or a related discipline, along with professional and/or teaching experience.
  • Highly qualified and motivated instructor for a graduate counseling curriculum
  • Candidates should be able to communicate effectively, use technology and learning management systems (e.g., Canvas) effectively in teaching and learning, and work collaboratively with other department members.
