Position Focus:
Reporting to the Director of the Gilmore Music Library, the Digital Archivist will lead projects and ongoing work that enables access to born digital and digitized content from the Music Special Collections. Additionally, the role will be responsible for supporting the processing of born digital content within Music Special Collections. The role will also act as the primary project manager for all ongoing project work within Music Special Collections.
The Digital Archivist will:
- Ingest digital content from Music Special Collections, including legacy materials and digital projects, into the library's digital preservation system, Preservica, as well as the library's primary systems for digital access to special collections materials, Digital Collections (DCS) for image-based collections, and Aviary for AV collections.
- Act as the primary point of leadership and contact for digitization projects for Music Special Collections.
- Develop and maintain workflow documentation related to routine ingest of digital content from Music Special Collections into Aviary, DCS and Preservica. Partner and collaborate closely with units providing leadership and services across Yale Special Collections related to digital collections, including Digital Special Collections and Access; Preservation Digital Strategies (including Digital Preservation Services and Digital Reformatting and Media Services); and Special Collections Technical Services.
- Support the acquisition and processing of born digital collections in Music Special Collections, partnering with Born Digital Services.
- Update and enhance descriptive metadata in ArchivesSpace and library online catalog related to digitized and born digital collection content, under the guidance of the Head of Music Metadata.
- Provide project management oversight for all complex, timebound projects within Music Special Collections.
- Participate in the creation of Music Library exhibitions, outreach and instruction programs, and events.
- Maintain knowledge of copyright, donor restrictions, and permissions issues related to processing and access of digitized and born-digital materials.
- May supervise student employees.

Essential Duties:
1. Manages projects and complex workflows related to digital collections and access 2. Serves on library committees, task forces or working groups, relevant to digital collections and access. 3. Works as part of a high performing collaborative team that supports Digital Special Collections and Access in achieving its vision, mission and shared goals 4. Champions innovation in relation to digital collections and access 5. Provides support and training for users across Yale Library, for digital collections tools and services 6. Provides decision making to aid with user focused enhancements to digital collections tools and platforms 7. Facilitates strong collaboration and communication with stakeholders across Yale Special Collections, as well as partners in Assessment and User Experience Research; Collections, Research and Education; Community Engagement; Library IT, Preservation and Conservation Services; Public Services and Operations; and Technical Services. 8. Is professionally active and keeps up to date on trends related to digital collections, digital stewardship, and access. 9. Advocates for responsible stewardship of library digital collection content 10. Champions the skills and services provided by Digital Special Collections and Access 11. Other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
1. Master’s degree from an ALA‐accredited library school. 2. Experience working collegially and cooperatively within and across organizations. 3. Experience working collaboratively and independently with varied groups within a complex organization and rapidly ever-changing environment.
Required Skill/Ability 1:
Demonstrated understanding of archival principals and best practices, notably in relation to digitized and born digital collections.
Required Skill/Ability 2:
Demonstrated project management skills; experience managing backlog projects.
Required Skill/Ability 3:
Two or more years of demonstrated ability working with library digital collections systems and tools, including Archives Space, Preservica and Library Management Platforms.
Required Skill/Ability 4:
Demonstrated technical understanding of digital preservation and access challenges and solutions.
Required Skill/Ability 5:
Strong collaboration, customer service, and communications skills.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Substantial knowledge of and experience with digital and online resources. Experience in migration to a new library services platform. Ability to read music and a basic understanding of music history.
