Human Resources Community of Practice is a unit within Human Resources in the Finance and Administration portfolio. Finance and Administration is a vibrant and varied portfolio serving all aspects of campus life. Our employees perform a wide range of functions including offering essential financial tools and support to the university's many departments, providing key resources to employees, and keeping the campus safe, clean, accessible, and beautiful.
Position Summary
University Human Resources (UHR) is looking for its first Director of the HR Community of Practice (HRCP) unit. This is your opportunity to join the UHR team during an exciting time as we expand and enhance HR support at the University of Oregon. In this role, you will have the opportunity to partner with the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and UHR leadership team to lead and create this new unit, which will focus on enhancing the relationships and partnerships between UHR and HR professionals in academic and administrative business offices and shared service units.
This unit, which will include a Director and two professionals, will be expected to work collaboratively with the CHRO and UHR leadership team in evaluating and understanding campus HR needs, coordinating cross-functional area projects to address those needs, triaging issues and guiding appropriate escalation, promoting ongoing competency building for the HRCP, and assisting the HRCP in addressing needs during times of increased volume or complex situations.
This position is based in Eugene with some level of flexibility including the option to work remotely with frequent commuting to campus. All adjusted work arrangements require supervisor and leadership approval.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and 5 years of progressive HR experience or
an equivalent combination of education and experience appropriate
to the role.
- Experience supervising professionals, students, or volunteers
or demonstrated competencies in the ability to lead a team of
professionals.
Professional Competencies
- General knowledge of operational and strategic HR
management
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships
- Strong skills in cross-team collaboration and the ability to
work with a variety of levels of HR leaders and
practitioners
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively and present
information to a variety of audiences
- Proven people leadership skills and the ability to influence
those who do not directly report to you
- Ability to analyze information to identify root issues or
themes
- Ability to organize, facilitate, and mobilize collaborative
teams to address problems or complete projects
- Ability to navigate ambiguity and lead during times of
change
- Ability to dynamically assess priorities and adjust as
necessary
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in two or more specific HR subject areas
- SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP or PHR/SPHR certification, or another HR
certification appropriate to the role
- Project management certification
- Experience in higher education with decentralized
administrative structures.
