Assistant Dean for Student Empowerment and Advocacy
Coastal Carolina University is currently accepting applications for the following position: Assistant Dean for Student Empowerment and Advocacy in the Dean of Students Office.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Provides supervision, leadership, and development for the area of Student Empowerment and Advocacy and the assigned personnel; Serve as the primary case manager and facilitate non-clinical interactions with students in distress and/or navigating crisis situations through trauma-informed care and identity-conscious support, including managing an individual caseload of students and any crisis follow-up related to their case load; Serves as a member of the CHANT Intervention Team (C-IT) and engage in regular communication with C-IT to ensure all matters are responded to in a timely fashion and with appropriate intervention based on the matter at hand; Provides advocacy and help to students when working with faculty/staff, navigating campus procedures, and understanding University policy; Develops and implements educational outreach and training regarding student advocacy and basic needs including but not limited to residence hall communities, student organizations, and other campus constituencies Oversees the annual assessment for the area of Student Empowerment and Advocacy, including the evaluation of processes and regulations to ensure fair and equitable processes, engaging in systematic planning by tracking trends, generating and analyzing reports, and preparing key performance indicators/metrics; and Serves as a member of the Dean of Students Office Leadership Team.
Requirements: A master’s degree and a minimum of three (3) years of related experience is required. A master’s degree in counseling, student affairs, higher education or related field and experience in a higher education setting, non-profit organization or K-12 school system as a counselor, social worker, hearing officer or case manager is preferred. Supervisory experience and five (5) or more years of experience working to meet the complex needs of today’s students is also preferred.

Normal work hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and Friday, 8:00am to 12:30pm. Must be flexible to meet the special scheduling needs of the university.
