Associate Director -Venture Mentor Network
About the Opportunity
About the D'Amore-McKim School of Business:
Founded in 1922, the D'Amore-McKim School of Business at Northeastern University prepares the leaders that the times demand. We deliver a curriculum that combines knowledge in technology and data analytics with uniquely human skills, such as critical thinking, creativity, and an entrepreneurial mindset. From undergraduate to MBA-level programs—online, on-site, or hybrid, full- or part-time, our world-renowned experiential approach empowers our students, faculty, alumni, and partners to create impact far beyond the confines of discipline, degree, and campus.
About the Opportunity:
About NUCEE: The Northeastern University Center for Entrepreneurship Education (NUCEE) is a university-wide experiential entrepreneurship center that works with undergraduates, graduate students, postdocs, and faculty to design, build and launch new ventures. NUCEE helps the university's entrepreneurial community achieve success through educational, experiential, and custom programming to support the development of entrepreneurs and startups. Core components of NUCEE Include Mosaic, the Venture Mentoring Network, a collection of grants, international and iCorps programs.
About VMN: The McCarthy(s) Venture Mentoring Network (VMN) is a university-wide resource available to all Northeastern students, faculty, and alumni ventures. The goal of the VMN is to pair Northeastern entrepreneurs with high-quality, experienced mentors that can help address business challenges and make our ventures more successful. Mentoring occurs at all stages of venture development. The VMN looks for mentors with entrepreneurial, innovative backgrounds and experience, backed by strong interpersonal skills, who will adhere to the mission and the principles of the program. VMN works with centers and organizations at Northeastern to serve 300+ ventures.
The VMN Approach:
Start with a conversation: Mentorship starts with an informational conversation between mentor and venture. Mentors learn more about the venture's business achievements and opportunities. Ventures learn more about the Network and how mentors might be impactful. Develop an action plan: Mentors and ventures collaborate to determine best next steps for the business and create a detailed list of mentor needs to present to the Network. Build a mentor team: Mentors work with the Network's management team to connect ventures with additional mentors to fulfill identified mentor needs. Collaborate to scale and launch: Mentors and ventures connect, collaborate to scale, and launch successful businesses based on identified mentoring needs.
Responsibilities:
The Venture Mentoring Network (VMN) Associate Director will be responsible for:
- Growing the participation in the Mentoring Network by providing mentors with an experience that meets their background, keeps them engaged and connected with each other.
- Managing and collaborating with the Venture Mentoring Network Program Manager.
- Directing the ongoing operations of the Venture Mentoring Network, including organizing and running all events, lunches, and meetings; onboarding new ventures and mentors; administering training sessions; or any other operational requirement s/he feels is required.

- Creating strategy in collaboration with VMN Co-Chairs, Founders and the VMN Steering Committee.
- Developing the scope of the network through new program offerings, engagement opportunities, and collaboration with University Colleges
- Expanding the collaboration of the network with University Advancement
Strong communication and relationship management skills are critical for this position combined with a mastery of operational details. Mentors are high priority individuals for NUCEE and the University. Building and maintaining strong, positive relationships with mentors is an important function of the McCarthy(s) Venture Mentoring Network.
Mentors expect to be treated professionally and value follow-up and strong operational capabilities.
