This position is dependent upon continued need and funding related to Covid 19. This temporary, non-benefited position is expected to last for 3 months with prospects for extending.

DEFINITION: Under general direction of the Director for Environmental Health, Safety and Risk Management (EHSRM), the Community Safety Assistant is responsible for COVID-19 public health and hygiene compliance with CDC/CDPH/CalOSHA/LPH and University COVID-19 protocols, serving as liaisons for EHSRM with UP/CorpHR, Student Conduct, Athletics, Housing, and other departments with special COVID-19 protocols.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential Functions:
  1. Provide community safety support for COVID-19 public health and hygiene compliance with CDC/CDPH/ CalOSHA/LPH and University C19 protocols
  2. Serve as liaison for EHSRM with University Personnel/Corporation HR, Student Conduct, Athletics, Housing, and other departments with special C19 protocols
  3. Make recommendations and initiate corrective actions regarding identified hazards or deficiencies and C19 noncompliance.
  4. Organize and oversee the C19 PPE supplies and PPE distribution points. Partner with Campus Facilities and EOC Incident Management Team regarding coordination of supplies.
  5. Conduct, or facilitate the completion of, periodic C19 safety inspections of facilities, equipment and projects to identify unsafe conditions and practices.
  6. Communicate with C19 Exposure Tracing Coordinator Manager regarding exposure response.
  7. Communicate with C19 Testing Staff Manager and Clinic Leads to coordinate safety messages and public communications.
  8. Write/review reports, memos, letters, email, use of electronic, paperless, and hard-copy fill-in forms, and workflow systems. May update online materials and information related to COVID-19 prevention.
  9. Will provide other EHSRM department support duties as assigned.
  10. Participate in all OSHA and University safety programs, as required, and follow all work safety guidelines.

Other Functions:
  1. May plan agendas, conduct, and attend CSA team meetings (virtual and/or in-person).
  2. Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT: There are components of this job which are deemed essential on campus. This position will primarily work on the main campus, with occasional work from home. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to travel around and throughout campus buildings, facilities, and off-site locations; work indoors and outdoors including inclement weather conditions and variable air quality; work at a computer and desk for extended periods of time; work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to verbally communicate to exchange information; work in an environment where chemicals, glass and other sharps may be present; work in a remote office setting with University-provided home office equipment.

This position requires working on campus with students, staff and faculty. The health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff remain our highest priority. In the fall, students, faculty, staff, and the community can expect that masks will be encouraged and that the appropriate degree of social distancing will be in place in all areas based on evolving guidance. Additionally, all students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to be vaccinated before coming to campus. CSUMB will communicate more information about vaccination requirements and testing protocols when the details become available.

Updated June 29, 2021: Corporation employees will be required to provide their vaccination status by mid-July through an on-line portal.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Requires fundamental written and oral communication skills, including a sound foundation in English grammar, spelling, and punctuation; an ability to work independently with some supervision; an ability to understand standard office procedures; an ability to operate standard office equipment; an ability to learn office technology systems; an ability to perform basic mathematical calculations; typing and keyboard skills; an ability to maintain confidentiality while working with sensitive information.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience: High school diploma AND three to six months of related experience.

Compensation and Benefits:

The hourly rate for this position is $23. This is a non-exempt position and as such is eligible for the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. A phone stipend may be provided.
