Position Summary
The Department of Public Administration and Policy in the University of Georgia’s School of Public & International Affairs invites nominations for and applications from scholars with research and teaching interests in the area of smart cities and sustainability. Of particular interest are experts with training in public policy and/or public administration who study energy and advanced environmental systems in urban and urbanizing areas, and scholars who draw clear research connections between smart cities and enduring questions in urban management. The department seeks scholars who are dedicated to research, teaching, and student mentorship and will contribute to the current strengths of our MPA and Ph.D. programs. Preference will be given to applications from individuals qualified for appointment at the assistant or associate professor rank with research and teaching interests in areas such as: financing of zero emissions public transportation infrastructure; policy and risk dimensions of autonomous vehicles or other energy innovations; research on environmental conditions in a smart cities; smart cities and environmental justice issues; intergovernmental management of smart cities; the use of data and information technology for the promotion of pro-environmental behaviors in urban settings; and monitoring and evaluation practices for public administrators in smart cities. Candidates with interest in advancing externally-sponsored work (collaboratively or individually) to support research in these areas are especially encouraged to apply.

The rank of assistant professor is the primary entry-level position for employment as a faculty member at the University.

- Years in Rank: Candidates do not need a minimum number of years in a lower rank unless the initial appointment was at the instructor level at the University of Georgia.
The rank of associate professor is the mid-career faculty rank at the University.
Requirements include the following:
- Degree: Candidates should have the terminal degrees appropriate for their disciplines.
- Years in Rank: Under usual circumstances, candidates must serve at least five years as assistant professor, including the year when the promotion will be considered at the University level, before they are eligible for promotion to associate professor.
