About the Opportunity:
Brown University is undergoing a tremendous growth in the arts, with newly appointed leadership for the Brown Arts Institute, and the state of the art, one of a kind Lindemann Performing Arts Center scheduled to open in Fall 2023. Brown seeks to fulfill its ambitious vision for the arts as an integral presence throughout a liberal arts education. We believe the arts are fundamental to critical inquiry into the most important questions facing humanity around the world, and we support artists operating at the highest levels of their craft to inform, and be informed by, scholars in disciplines across the sciences, social sciences, and humanities.
Responsibilities:
The Production Manager reports to the Director of Design and Production of the Brown Arts Institute (BAI) and is responsible for managing the production needs and schedules for all performances, exhibitions, special events, and workshops taking place across BAI venues, including the Lindemann Performing Arts Center and the Granoff Center for the Creative Arts. The Production Manager will be an integral part of a growing technical team within the BAI that serves as a new collaborative service, guiding the production efforts of the University’s seven core arts departments affiliated with the BAI. Key responsibilities include oversight of all production needs for BAI-sponsored and user-sponsored projects, as well as ensuring the smooth and efficient running of day-to-day production operations. The Production Manager will also serve as a source of guidance and advice to the arts departments, ensuring that productions across the arts are executed safely and to the highest professional standards.
Qualifications:
Education
- Required: BA or BFA
- Preferred: BA or BFA in technical theater or related
field
- 5+ years in technical theater management, stage management, or
performance art-related field
- 2-4 years of supervisory experience
- Broad skill-set including experience in audio, video, lighting,
and signal routing
- Demonstrated competencies in professional artistic practice to
appropriately communicate with a wide array of creative
professionals (including faculty, visiting artists, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse
perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize and multitask
- Ability to think strategically, with an eye to long-term
planning
- Proven verbal and written communication skills and a flexible
style to successfully accommodate a broad range of individuals and
developing priorities
- Experience in installation and fabrication a plus

Additional Information:
This position requires a great deal of diplomacy, prioritization, compartmentalization, and multi-tasking, while taking care to maintain open and collaborative relationships with constituents throughout the University. A flexible schedule, including evening and weekend work, is a requirement. A good-natured attitude will be essential.
