About the Opportunity:
Reporting to the Lieutenant of Patrol, the Dispatch Center Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day management of the NUPD's Emergency Operations and Communications Center. This includes managing the personnel, equipment, and the work functions performed there. The EOCC Supervisor ensures proper communications procedures, compliance with department policies, and will be able to work as an Operator on shift when needed.

Responsibilities:
Provides day-to-day operational direction for all emergency and non-emergency communication activities.

Oversees staffing and scheduling.

Oversees the evaluation of employee work performance and conducts annual evaluations.

Manages personnel issues including mentoring, counseling, discipline, and recommending solutions to employee grievances.

Works with the Lieutenant of Patrol to plan and analyze projects and staffing requirements to meet service demands, turnover, and training.

Assists with the hiring and discharge processes.

Ensures new dispatch personnel are properly trained and prepared to utilize all EOCC equipment and resources quickly and effectively.

Sees to the continuing education, professional development, in-service training, and training certifications of personnel.

Ensures equipment is properly maintained and operational.

Troubleshoots problems and calls for technical maintenance and repair of communications equipment as needed.

Ability to learn and train employees in communications center hardware/software to include ARMS, radio system, inTime, SafeZone, Rave, GMS Alarm, CJIS, Redbox, TrueID, and Exaqvision.

Ensures the EOCC facilities are properly supplied and professionally maintained.

Must be prepared to work as an Operator for shifts on an as-needed basis. May also be expected to work as a lead operator for Special Events or Critical Incidents.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Must have at least 3 years background or experience working in or managing a Dispatch Center.

Knowledge of public safety communications practices and procedures and the technical language of Police, Fire, EMS, APCO.

Thorough knowledge of ICS practices and protocols including knowledge of supervising of an ICS communications center.

Ability to develop, plan, and coordinate schedules.

Strong organizational skills.

Strong interpersonal, coaching, and management skills.

Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.

Strong knowledge of computers, equipment, CCTV cameras, and related software.


Preferred Qualifications:

Management experience of a Dispatch Center strongly preferred.

Bachelors or Master's Degree in criminal justice or related field preferred.
