Job Overview

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Divisional Operations, the Director of Strategic Marketing is responsible for the oversight, development, management, and execution of Student Affairs’ divisional marketing. This position provides leadership in marketing strategic initiatives within the division of Student Affairs to ensure a high standard of quality, consistency in voice, branding and streamlining of the work. Primary areas of concentration include strategic planning, marketing, communications, administrative oversight and accountability for marketing and communications project planning and assessment. The Director of Strategic Marketing uses seasoned skills in market research, principles, practices and techniques of marketing strategies, data analysis, social media and project management to lead, perform and support the development and execution of marketing planning and activities within Student Affairs. The position has a full understanding of analytical practices, policies and procedures and will research, analyze, and develop solutions to a wide range of issues needed to oversee the marketing of strategic initiatives. The Director of Strategic Marketing will strategize, coordinate, and execute events; develop, promote and advertise strategies; and create materials designed to foster awareness and drive enrollment, participation and awareness for Student Affairs’ offerings. The position requires a full understanding of the fundamentals and functions of best industry practices for traditional and digital marketing. The Director of Strategic Marketing works with Student Affairs’ Leadership including Associate Vice Presidents, Program Directors, Managers, University Communications, and external partners to effectively promote CSUSM offerings and target the appropriate audience in designated campaigns.

Position Summary

Director of Strategic Marketing (Administrator I)

This is a full time, exempt position in the Management Personnel Plan (MPP). MPP positions serve at the pleasure of the President.

This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 14 paid holidays are offered each year; 13 scheduled on specific days and a Personal Holiday that may be taken any time during the year.

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $7,084 - $7,917 per month

CSU MPP Salary Range: $3,750 - $11,146 per month

MPP: Salary is commensurate with the background and experience of the individual selected.
