Job Description Summary:
The Alumni Nurse (AN) tutor serves as a tutor to designated Samuel Merritt University BSN or ELMSN pre-licensure students in the Nursing Workforce Diversity (NWD) program. The AN tutors will meet & tutor students weekly during the academic year 1:1 or in small groups via email, phone, &/or face-to-face, &/or other technologies that facilitate online meetings for the purposes of tutoring. The AN tutors will collaborate with the departments of Academic Support & the School of Nursing to ensure that the project’s needs are being fulfilled. Preference is given to AN Tutors who were previously peer tutors, TAs, or NFTs in scholars programs.
Position(s) is designated as hourly, non-benefited employment. Rate: $30/hr., not to exceed 20 hours/week. Length of employment is variable, based on HRSA grant funding.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Tutors are designated to work with active NWD students/scholars throughout the academic year based upon student need for a minimum of 4 hours per week to clarify course content, remediate nursing skills, and review preparation skills (e.g., math skills, study skills, test-taking skills, etc.).
- Hours may be scheduled during the day, in the evenings, or on weekends. 85-95%
- Collaborate with the departments of Academic Support & Collge of Nursing 5-10%
- Other duties as assigned
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to use the computer, & social networking media as needed.
- Must have access to a computer, phone, & email.
- AN tutors must comply with the same tutoring requirements as student tutors and participate in a Tutor Training Seminar taught by the Academic Support Coordinator.
- Essential are good organizational skills & the ability to document and follow through with tutorial commitments.
- Experience in higher education administrative role.
- Highly desired Skills in writing concise, logical & grammatically correct materials including mastery in editing documents.
- Must have graduated from Samuel Merritt University School of Nursing & shown success in academic achievement as determined by the College of Nursing & the Office of Academic Disability Support Services.
- Graduates of the NWD program are preferred.
